Full Indie Summit

Whether you've been an indie for life or are still learning the ropes, join us on April 20th for the Full Indie Summit!

Full Indie presents a day of lectures by leading independent game developers that will teach and inspire. The speakers are behind some of the biggest indie hits in recent years and have spoken at GDC, the Independent Games Summit, and PAX Dev just to name a few. Each talk will also feature a Q & A period for you to ask the experts your own specific questions.

Attendees and speakers from all over are welcome and encouraged to attend, but be sure to buy your ticket in advance. It’s a not-for-profit event and the tickets are simply cover the venue, so if you’ve been unable to afford conferences such as GDC, now’s your chance to experience what you’ve been missing.

The summit will take place at the Rio Theater on Broadway and Commercial, easily accessible by transit.

The talks will start at 10AM up to 4PM, with a break for lunch.

Due to restrictions at the location, this event is for ages 19+.

Hey guys, we have drawn the prize codes for Retro City Rampage and Hoard, but meetup makes it a little bit difficult to get them to you all as we are limited to a certain number of messages per day, so they will come to you over the course of the week.

I thought the info was great (Especially Adam Boyse from Sony and Dan Adelman from Nintendo). Nice to see Noah Musler from Microsoft there also. Good networking. If the conference had been a few hundred of dollars it would still be worth it. Great job.

Hey guys - great event! Wish I got to meet more ppl. Need to get some feedback on our game and some marketing advice. Also, move the full indie events to Fridays or weekends! Can't do other weekdays because of work :/

    April 22, 2013

    • Kimberly V.

Thanks, Brenda! Let's talk more off line about this.... I'll be in touch. :]

Not sure this is even a problem. Remember that no days are perfect for everyone considering we are now at 1,500 members+. The midweek events are always packed, we moved from the 2nd floor of Ceili's to the 3rd adding 50 capacity to the event. The events are still packed with 80 ppl on a waiting list. So while a weekend booking might be preferable for some, I don't think the mid-week scheduling is deterring enough folks to warrant switching the event to a weekend. I suppose if the event was dead on Wednesdays it would be worthwhile to investigate ,but as it stands, Wednesdays seem to work for 150 people plus.

Can I make the recommendation to have name tags in place for the next one? I believe it encourages people to make connections with others if they can start by knowing someones name and what they do.

Thanks to the speakers and organizers for the great event. I look forward to making the trip from Seattle again for one of the meetups!

If anyone wants to localize their game for french send me a message. I have a translator friend who is looking for projects.

Great event, guys. A little disappointed that only one of the speakers was female and everyone was white, but some great talks.

    April 21, 2013

    • Kimberly V.

Diversity is super awesome! But this is a tough one. The last thing that anyone wants is to feel that they are up on stage because they are part of group X and not because they are an awesome contributor to our community. The industry is unbalanced as a result of a lot of forces right now, and there is no immediate nor clear solution. But I think that's (slowly) starting to change. Nonetheless, we have to be careful we're not creating contrived scenarios because that's potentially disrespectful to all. What we need to spend our energy on is creating an indie (and beyond) community that is welcoming as well as getting the word out there so that everyone who wants to feels they can be a part. And while part of that message includes representation via role models, it is a slippery slope....

      3 · April 22, 2013

    • Lucas JW J.

Yeah, this isn't the place for this debate, so I'll only say that a) I meant no disrespect to the organizers or speakers; as I started with, I thought it was a great event; b) what I meant is more an ongoing disappointment that game development conferences continue to be dominated by straight white males, often through no fault of the organizers but more the fault of the dominant gaming culture, and while most of the talks this weekend were fantastic, I think a more concerted effort to make sure diverse viewpoints are at least aware of and invited to submit talk proposals would be nice (after all, there are many many non-white male game developers with great things to contribute). If you wish to discuss this more, please send me a personal message so all these other fine people don't keep getting bombarded with comment notifications.

Great job organizing all the awesome talks! It was an informative and inspiring day and especially as someone from the states I really enjoyed seeing the passion and knowledge of Vancouver on display.

Huge kudos to Brian and Kim and the other organizers! Excellent event. Thank you for making it so affordable. I'm still trying to pay off GDC... Who can afford these expensive conferences? Love your approach and if I can help next year, I'm in!

Big thanks to Brian and the other organizers for making this happen. Really great to see affordable conferences like this with such interesting topics. Also glad to hear that the Game n' Farmer talk resonated with some people. For the person below who was asking about the speakers' email addresses, mine is [masked]. I'm available for audio freelance work/consulting, and always up for meeting other devs. Or if you just need help moving a wood pile or something.

Also an outdoorsy sound designer here with a shared dream of one day living in the country.
If my startup gets off the ground, I have it in my head to drag employees up a mountain every summer and make games on laptops w / solar power at 13,000 feet, miles from any other humans. Thought I was pretty weird for wanting that.

Great event, thanks to the organizers and speakers, really good stuff. Charge a little more next time and keep some free seats for those without money

Fantastic event, great speakers and insight into the Indie Dev scene. There’s a lot of potential for this becoming a much larger annual event. I was planning on being in Australia this time next year, but if its on again I’ll be back for it.

Go ahead with the bigger venue next time, East Side! These things cost hundreds in the states, I'm sure people will cough up an extra 5 or 10 for some additional schmoozing area. Was glad to finesse my way into the after party for a little bit and meet some of the ultralisks.

    April 21, 2013

  • Nicole D.

I had a great time! There were lots of great speakers and it was a really inspiring event! I think I'm going to have to buy some land and be a farm n' gamer. :-)

I liked the event, and was glad to see a few people feel exactly how I do.

    1) I prefer to work from home with a good view of nature instead of being in the city. PS: I also lived in Edmonton for a long time ;)
    2) When I started my business (and still to this point) I found myself doing way to much work non-related to making any products. IE: Legal, business, marketing, LOTS of management.
    3) I follow the same concepts as Eastside but to a more extreme state with my company and how they pick games. Just wait for phase 2 of our site to really see that area shine ;)

This was my first meet up, unfortunately I didn't get to meet anyone as the very dark environment didn't make it very easy to socialize.

The other issue I didn't know you had to register separately for the after party :(. Anyway besides that I will definitely go to more of these meet ups, it is great to see how many like minded people live close to each other.

PS: We are looking for other indies to join us
