Where will we meet?
We will meet at the Steveston Landing under the Fisherman's Wharf sign (see pic below.) Steveston Landing is on Bayview Street and if you come up Second Avenue in Steveston you will come up to the Steveston Landing. We will meet here at 1:15 PM and begin the walk at 1:30 PM sharp. We will walk around the wharf in Steveston down to the Britannia Shipyard area where the heritage buildings will be open and then walk back to the Waves Coffee Shop on 1st and Bayview for a chat and to compare photos!
Steveston has some amazing photo opportunities, lots of fishing boats, wildlife, river scenes and beautiful buildings. We will also walk along the water frontage to the Britannia Shipyards which has some great heritage buildings and interesting history. These heritage buildings will be open for viewing until 4 PM for Heritage Days and there is a lot to see and learn, also why I've given this walk a little more time.
Take a look at this link to read more:
1. What should I bring?
A Camera, It doesn't matter if you have a point and shoot camera or a Digital SLR, either one is fine
A tripod (optional)
Flash, or camera mounted flash (optional, it can get dark inside the heritage buildings)
Wear comfortable clothes and shoes, be sure you are comfortable, it will be a bit of a walk
2. What can I shoot?
There are plenty of fishing boats, an old cannery, heritage buildings which will be open to the public, local wildlife and river scenes. There will also be plenty of people out on the day, so people and street photography should be good too! Lots and lots of photo opps.
3. How do I get there?
You can drive out there, it is best to use Google Maps if you are driving. You can find free and pay parking along the streets around Steveston, a pay parking lot on Chatham Street (5 minute walk), or free parking at Garry Point Park (about a 10 minute walk to the meeting area).
If you are using public transit, you may need to use the Skytrain and then a bus to Steveston, there are a few combinations, so check on the Transit website or use Google Maps, there is public transit to within a block of the meeting place.
Look forward to seeing you there!
