Meet Jamie Cheng- founder of Klei

This event is now free!

***Jamie Cheng***

Meet Jamie Cheng, the man behind Klei -- one of the city's most exciting game companies, building beautiful entertainment for PC, mobile, and console systems.

Learn how he started the company on his couch in a basement, released his first independent hit Eets, then turned that into original IP 3rd party development work, eventually snagging a publishing deal with EA and now making critical gems like the recently released Mark of the Ninja. (Metacritic Score: 90)

Hear the indie story of how he built one of the few indie studios to truly crack the console market, delivering games with significant comercial success and critical accolades.

Get Jamie's thoughts on building a studio, the future of Klei, signing a deal with EA for publishing, keeping the soul of his company and products alive WITH that deal, and the state of the video games industry as a whole.

Jamie is an unsung here in the Vancouver game development scene... come find out what makes him tick.

***Bonus Content***

Come see 10 one minute pitches from ten of Vancouver's finest indie developers. The top three pitchers will get five minutes to show a video/playable demo of their game. The winner of the top three will get a one hour one-on-one lunch with Jamie (paid for by Vancouver Social Games.)

To be one of the indie developers who gets to pitch on Wednesday email Mack: [masked]. You MUST have a playable demo/prototype of your game available. Games for any format are welcome. Top ten games/developers will be chosen by the VSG Exectuive Team. Top three and grand prize winner will be chosen by the audience.

I enjoyed hearing Jamie's experience, and it was fairly inspirational to hear about the different problems and solutions that happened for Klei, as well as how survivable being an indie developer could be. Jamie also seemed to outline exactly how it's a lot easier now to go indie than at the start of the 2000's.

A truly amazing event with words of inspiration from Jamie Cheng. Thank you Mack for hosting this event and a big thank you to the sponsors without whom this event wouldn't have been possible. Got to meet some new people interested in the game industry and ran into some old friends as well.
