Introduction to VI bindings

Details

Hi everyone,

For the next meetup, we'll be doing three talks (30min presentation by Tommy Chan and 2x lightning talks).

Tommy Chan will be presenting An Introduction to VI bindings. Most of you have heard of VI (or VIM), but have you actually tried to use it on a regular basis? Actually why do you even want to know it in the first place?

For this talk, I will go over the following topics:

  • What are VI bindings?

  • Basics of VI bindings.

  • How will it improve my productivity with live demos.

  • Using the macro recorder to automate a lot of the repetitive typing tasks.

You might be asking yourself, what does learning VI binding improve my automation skills? Well, the better you are with the keyboard, the more effective you are with being able to automate whatever you're trying to achieve. In addition, I'll also show you how to record macros, which lets you automate a lot of the repetitive typing tasks you will encounter in this profession.

Jaime Bueza (@jbueza) will be sharing to everyone what he's been hacking on for fun lately -- this project revolves around capturing front-end metrics, built on NodeJS, uses Jenkins to run all its unit tests, service layer tests, and continuously deploys to Windows Azure.

Kyle Campbell (@slajax) will be sharing how he automates AWS deployments with Git.

Join us June 5th at 6:30pm @Dell headquarters! After the hour long presentation we'll head out for drinks and food afterwards.

Hope to see everyone there!
