Beat the workweek and chill with some vegan drinks and food on Thursday, 28 July 2016 from 6:30 to 10:30 pm (and beyond) at indoor-outdoor dive bar, The Railyard. Vegan Drinks was held here last month and they gave us such a warm vegan welcome with this vegan-friendly road sign (that they kept up all month, thanks RailYard!) that we had to hang with them again!
We were lucky to nab Katy-based Raw Vegan Chef Renee who will be there with her Gourmet Living Food Trailer along with the always-scumptious Guudbelly and their vegan tamales. (Eat a small lunch because you’re gonna wanna eat lots of vegan chow! Bring non-vegan friends to taste the vegan deliciousness!) Plus we'll groove to vegan tunes mixed by vegan DJ Chris - music starts at 9.
Just RSVP and feel free to share with vegan and pre-vegan friends (REMEMBER: When you arrive, make sure to get a vegan drinks STICKER to get your drinks discount.)

For more details, read below:
WHO: Vegans—and their friends. Trainspotters also welcome :)
WHERE: The Railyard Neighborhood Bar on San Felipe Street near The Galleria (on SF, just inside the 610 Loop and just W of the railroad tracks.) There is a parking lot outside the bar. If it’s full there is plenty of free street parking on surrounding roads. Check down East BriarHollow Lane (that runs parallel to the railroad tracks and bar) or across the street from the bar you can park on side streets off San Felipe: Mid Lane or Briarglen Drive. You can also park in the Target parking lot and walk down the street.

The Railyard describes itself as an “unpretentious hangout and tavern.” http://www.nightclub.com/the-scene/nightclub-bar-awards/news/railyard-4435 It’s a low key, relaxed place but (who knew?!) it’s ‘award-winning’: The bar was a finalist in the “Small Wonder Bar of the Year” category (40 seats and under) of the 2012 Nightclub & Bar Awards. Dress is totally casual, although if you are coming from work, you can be suited up, too! There are tables both inside and outside.
DRINKS: Considering it’s a bar perched between The Galleria and River Oaks, the good news is that it has wrong-side-of-the-railroad-tracks prices. And they are even giving us vegans special discounts on a few vegan beverage choices (beers and non-name-brand liquor is in the $3-$4 range.) Just make sure to show the bartender your vegan sticker that you get when you arrive.
NON-ALCOHOLIC DRINKS: If you’re a teetotaler, GuudBelly will have two drinks choices: their hazelnutty Horchata (organic nutmeg, organic vanilla extract, organic cinnamon, hazelnut milk, and organic brown sugar) and Duchess, refreshing tea (organic brewed hibiscus, organic blueberry, organic cherry, organic lime, organic brown sugar.)

FOOD:
Raw Vegan Chef Renee: We are lucky to get a taste of West-Houston-based, Chef Renee Herndon’s amazing raw cuisine. Renee has been a raw food chef and un-cooking instructor since 2007 after a long career as a United/Continental flight attendant. She was trained by Boston-based raw-and-living-food Chef Leah Dubois and Alissa Cohen and has a successful raw vegan food truck and delivery business based out of Katy (She is usually based at 2714 N. Mason Rd. on several days of the week, but she delivers to Central Houston on 2 days of the week.)

For Vegan Drinks, Renee will be offering Fajita Lettuce Wraps, Zucchini Pasta w/Marinara Sauce, Nachos and Pizza—all raw! Plus for desert she’ll have Donut Holes, Stuffed Apple Crepes and Fruit Kababs. If you want to try anything else from her extensive menu, you can order it in advance and pick it up at the event. Check out her website and vast menu options http://www.rawveganchefrenee.com

Guudbelly: Vegan couple L & Vic Arroyo launched their vegan tamale business http://www.guudbelly.com a mere 11 months ago—and they have taken the vegan food community by storm. L explains how they got started: “Vic and I ended up making tamales on a whim because we had a tamale pot at home. They came out so delish and our family and friends loved them so much that we decided we would start a food business!” She continues: “We practice sustainability by using only recycled, biodegradable, and corn-based compostable plastics and donating compost to Rowdy Girl Sanctuary and the local farms: Plant-It-Forward and Sown and Grown.”

Chef Vic has developed what may arguably be the best tamales out there, a variety of flavors—all from pure organic plant ingredients.Their accompanying sauces are to-die-for: a flavorful mix of peppers and tomatillos. Once you have these tamales, you are going to crave them. Luckily, Guudbelly are regulars at the farmer’s markets around town. So, lots of people place bulk orders in advance and pick up their week’s worth of freezable tamales. (You can order some in advance for pick at Vegan Drinks, too.)

MUSIC: Vegan drinks starts at 6:00pm, but from 9pm, you can groove to the tunes of vegan DJ Chris. Chris Lewis has been been playing guitar, writing songs and loving music since he was a kid. He began DJ-ing in college. He was a vegetarian starting in 2005 and went vegan for ethical reasons in 2012. Listen to his mixes here: https://soundcloud.com/deep-sleeper/chris-dj-mix-2015 (Chris is donating his time and talents plus renting sound equipment. So if you can, please chip in a few bucks to help fund expenses.)
