Dinner at The Curry Club

posted by Jennifer G.

Join us at our monthly dinner at the Curry Club! This completely vegan dinner is served family style and includes appetizers, several entrees, rice, bread, and dessert.

***For February's dinner, be forewarned: there will be a "seat-swapping" partway through the evening! This is to reconfigure conversation groups, and allow you to visit with more people. (You'll keep your own napkin & place setting, of course.) Only some of us need to move for this to work. I'll designate some seats as those which will stay put, so if you'd be uncomfortable changing your seat, just put in your RSVP "I'd like to stay put, thanks."***

As with all VLI meetups, please follow VLI's policy that "the food is always vegan, and everyone is treated with kindness." (In other words, we expect everyone to order only vegan fare. Even if you or your guests don't think of yourselves as "vegan.")

The price is $20 for all you care to eat, including tax and tip. Beverages (wine, beer, juice, tea) will add to your cost. Pay at the restaurant.

And finally, be mindful of VLI's RSVP/no show policy (here: www.meetup.com/Vegan-Long-Island/about/). Please make up your mind by the RSVP deadline, and then keep your commitment. If your RSVP is yes, please come!

You're welcome, Christa—and here's one more I think we talked about: http://www.veganbodyb... There's a lot of info at the site. Two pages of particular interest: 1. This page is full of bios of vegan bodybuilders, including Robert Cheeke whom I mentioned: http://www.veganbodyb... 2. And here's the "Getting Started" page you might want to share with your friend: http://www.veganbodyb...

Thanks, everybody, for a wonderful evening. So great to be with you! I hope you all had a good time—I look forward to seeing you again soon.

Hi Jennifer, I'm looking forward to meeting up at the Curry Club tomorrow, HOWEVER, it seems like it may snow now. I know it may turn out to be just some flurries (which is not a problem) but if it gets worse I may cancel. I live about an hour away from the restaurant. Do you want me to change my RSVP to NO?? I will most likely come, but I don't want to mess up the head count.

Hi Dana—if you need to cancel, I understand. I've already phoned in the headcount to the restaurant, but I'll still be glad if you update your RSVP to "no" so I know not to worry about you. :) Bottom line: if the weather's bad, please use your best judgement and stay safe!

I was hoping you guys would meet at another kind of food place. I cannot eat Indian food. Look forward to meeting you guys another time. Would you guys be interested in New Budda Bodai in Queens?

Hi Mary—the Curry Club is only one of the places we meet at. Click on "Past meetups" in the menu on the left and you'll see what some of the other places have been! That said, yes, definitely interested in a meetup at New Buddha Bodai in Queens. If you'd be able to help with making the arrangements and/or hosting the event, let me know! (See this page for guidance for prospective hosts: http://www.meetup.com...]

Can we put in requests for tofu saag, chana masala, yellow daal, coconut rice, something with mushrooms and vegan rice pudding?

    January 22, 2013

    • Jennifer G.

We did have tofu saag, yellow dal, coconut rice, and vegan rice pudding last time, so I expected to request those again. The mixed vegetables were popular, too. I could request mushrooms this time in place of the eggplant; and while I like chana masala, the appetizer already has chickpeas in it, so maybe that would be slightly redundant?
