Marni, I would love to make my kitchen available for your outings AND I have a beautiful stage area for cooking classes!  I’m actually putting together a schedule and would love some suggestions of possible teachers!

Subject: [Vegan-Baking] Meetups/Classes/Baking

Hi everyone -

I'd like to welcome all the new members to the group (WELCOME EVERYONE! :) ), and to ask all of you for your help.

I need your suggestions for meetups. From one of the first suggestions that was posted, I have contacted a few churches and schools in my area who might have kitchens for us to bake in or practice skills, to no avail. They either don't rent out, or they have no way to "police" us or whatever.

If any of you could contact your local churches, schools, etc. to find out if we could use their kitchen for demos, classes and/or baking, that would be fantastic. A kitchen with ovens would be ideal - so far it seems the kitchens I contact don't have ovens either. Please let me know if you receive some good news from any of these places, and what days/times they're willing to house us.

I've also thought some good meetups would be going around to different Farmer's Markets to see what they offer in the ways of fresh fruits and veggies, and maybe have some demonstrations on how to work with particular foods. Does anyone have an ingredient that puzzles them, or that they want to know more about? It could be anything from a turnip to wheatgrass. I personally would like to know how to work with beets. I've never worked with them, but understand they're fantastic in vegan baking, and I'd like to see how to use them. Please let me know what other ideas you have, or you can post your ideas right on the "Ideas" page on the site!

Also, if you would like to open up your kitchen, or know someone who would be willing to host us for baking and socializing, that would be wonderful. If you'd like to teach a class or lead a lecture/demo, please let me know. I know at least a couple of our members are either already teaching classes, or starting to, and all we need is a venue! If you know of a bakery around town who would like to sponsor us, that would also be phenom. They would get listed on our sponsor page, and get exposure!

And remember, speaking of bakeries - we have a meetup coming up 2/28/10 to come out and support a fellow Vegan Baking member, and entrepreneur, Julie Wandling Costell, who is opening up her own Vegan Bakery, Ms. Julie's Kitchen, and has invited us to her Open House. I'd love to see a bunch of us out there to meet and congratulate her and show our enthusiasm for a vegan baking establishment in the area. If you live on the east side and would like to carpool there, please let me know. Please also remember to RSVP on the meetup site. I know that will also be sending a reminder out soon.

Thanks, everyone, and I look forward to meeting you at the bakery on the 28th, and to us having some productive, fun future meetups!

Please Note: If you hit "REPLY", your message will be sent to everyone on this mailing list ([address removed])
