Bristlecone Trail Snowshoeing on Friday (better weatherforcast)

Details
The Weather doesn't looks good on Tuesday. I don't mind it is snowing or not, but it looks bit windy.
I won't cancel the Tuesday hike, but I added another trip on Friday.
Friday's weatherforcast looks better than Tuesday.

Finally, we got a fair amount of snow up on the Mt.Charleston Area. It is still only a foot or two, but it maybe OK for doing snowshoeing.
Lets have some fun in the snow !
This hike is 'snowshoeing for beginners'. Any snowshoeing experiences including first timer are welcome.
Bristlecone trail is one of the best place to start snowshoeing. This is the chance to start snowshoeing if you are interested in.
Even I said 'Easy', snowshoeing is not so easy. Since you got extra weight (snowshoe & snow) on your ankle, your feet will get tired very soon. Snowshoeing is twice or more harder than normal hike. (its all depends on snow condition)
We will start from upper Bristlecone trailhead and goes down to lower Bristlecone trailhead. We will park few cars at lower Bristlecone trailhead for car shuttle inbetween both upper and lower trailhead. So, we don't have to hike back up.
Stats:
Hike: Bristlecone Trail (snowshoe) - Loop trail
Trailhead: Upper Bristlecone Trailhead (by the Ski Resort)
Distance: 5 miles
Elevation gain: 750 ft total
Elevation peak: 9,400 ft
Time: 4 - 5 hours
Difficulty: 2
To participate in this hike, you MUST bring the following gear. Buy it, Rent it or Steal it. What ever it takes....
-
Snow Shoes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowshoe)....You can rent snowshoes at Sports Charlet (http://www.sportchalet.com/category/services+%26+advice/in-store+services/equipment+rentals/outdoor+rentals.do) or REI (http://www.rei.com/stores/rentals.html#nevada)
-
Ski pole or Trekking pole (with snow baskets)
-
Alpine Boots or Water proof Boots (with at least mid ankle)
-
Gloves
Please bring some drink and snack too. We may stop at some point for short lunch.
Also, the following gear are recommended.
-
Gaiters (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaiters)
-
Ski Pants
-
Beanie Hat
-
Jacket/wind breaker...Wear in layers, but don't bring too many layers.
-
Sunglass
-
Sun screen
-
Extra pair of socks
Tips:
Avoid any COTTON shirts/pants/socks. Once it gets wet (by snow or sweat), it will never dried out. Nylon or Wool is Better.
The water in the Camelbak hydration hose may freeze. Bring it in the bottle. Hot coffee or tea is a good idea if you have insulated bottle.
If you don't have Gaiters or water proof boots, bring plastic shopping bag and rubber band. And wrap your boots and lower pants with it. I can't guarantee it, but it may work...At least, better than nothing.
Very strong kids are OK.
Please No Dogs, No Cats and No Polar Bears unless you leash it whole time.
If you are not sure that you can make it, or you want to bring your kids, please drive your vehicle up to the trailhead. So, you can turn around anytime you want.
Carpoolers must pay $5-6 to the Driver. I may cancel this hike if the weather looks very agly. But, we will go even if its lightly snowing.
