OVERVIEW:
This is a 3 day/2 night backpack trip. The hike from Bottcher’s Gap is rated difficult. We will hike 7 steep miles to Pat Spring Camp sawing as many trees as we can on the way. We will camp at Pat Spring where with a short walk we can take in the most stunning view of the coast and Pico Blanco and maybe catch the sunset over the Pacific (or into the fog bank below.)
THE WORK:
There is work for all abilities, for both pros and novices, from crosscut saw work and brushing to trail “gardening.” Our work will be focused on tree removal and brushing along on the Skinner Ridge Trail, the Big Pines Trail, and the Big Pines connector Trail.
MEET: at Bottcher’s Gap at the end of Palo Colorado Canyon at 7:30 am. Heavy Rain cancels
Early departure on Sunday is an option
BRING :
· Backpacking gear and meals for yourself
· Rain gear for the uniquely wet microclimate at Pat Spring
· Work gloves, sturdy work clothes and sturdy footwear
· Technu lotion for poison oak protection if you need it
· Day pack able to carry at least 2 liters of water
· Water and snacks for the trail
· Your favorite loppers , handsaw and helmet if you have them, otherwise tools and helmets will be provided.
· Wear a belt if you would like to carry a hand saw on your hip
· Don’t forget to bring a special contribution to the famous, festive and fabulous VWA hors d’eourves POTLUCK Saturday night.
RESERVATIONS:
· This trip limited to 15 people.
