Paul, This is FANTASTIC!!! This is required viewing at the next meeting. This video and presentation exemplifies the next steps for us. How exciting:) Should we make action items to put together a design pattern during the meeting? And then we can make a goal for everyone to create at least 1 design pattern for one of their project ideas to present at the next meeting (1 slide to keep it short and sweet).

Misty, I've been thinking about your comment below about the projects and the various steps of idea creation, promotion materials, ..., presentation, etc. and I think this is a great idea. It made me think of an online video of some guys from the Chaos Computer Club in Germany (I think). They had been looking for a way to pass on lessons learned but didn't want a list of things to do, or not to do, so instead they decided to use design patterns.

or watch a video of it:

I was thinking that as we do projects we could come up with our own 'design patterns' of sorts for various project types and meeting types. So not so much structure to stifle creativity with their projects or meetings, but might give enough instruction and framework to encourage people to lead a project, or run a meeting who might not otherwise want to do that.

We discussed promoting a project to present to the community at an unspecified event. Here were some ideas: Film/TV/Radio, Automotive, Ceramics, Boat Building, Water Toys, LED Lamps, Linux upgrades, Beadmaking, Sculpting, Animation, Survivalist Classes, 3D Printers.

Our suggestion was for the group to pick 1 project to promote initially per month. In preparation the Project Leader provides a 15 minute TED like presentation to the group. As we get closer to the project we support in idea creation, promotion materials, raw materials, presentation practice partners, etc. . . Once the presentation is perfected we bring it to the community via the library and local students. We create a video of the finished product and post it online. Caesar suggested that the seminars be called, "Let's talk Boats", "Let's talk Rockets" or "Let's talk 3D Printers". The series becomes our product namesake similar to the Dummies Series. Let's discuss at the next meeting if everyone is interested.
