A full day of hands-on-workshops and talks introducing and using open source spatial software. Thank to University of Victoria for providing a venue - space may be limited so sign up early!

Friday Morning (Room B215 9:00 am to 1:30 pm)

1 hour workshops, bring your own laptop.

• Welcome - quick orientation on open standards, data, source and software

• Introduction to GeoServer (9:30 am - 11:00 pm) Learn to load, style, and publish maps and data using GeoServer.

• Making Pretty Maps with CartoDB (11:00 am 12:30 pm) Explore data visualization.

Friday Lunch (12:30 pm - 1:30 pm)

Networking and food.

Friday Afternoon (1 hour workshops)

1 hour workshops, bring your own laptop.

• Introduction to PostGIS (1:30 pm - 2:30 pm) Introduction to PostGIS spatial database. Installation, loading data, configuration, spatial SQL queries are among the topics touched on in this overview.

• QGIS Introduction (2:30 pm - 3:30 pm) Introduction to QGIS Desktop GIS Software using a local civic dataset.

• GeoGig Workshop (3:30 pm - 4:30 pm) GeoGig is a Distributed Version Control System (DVCS) specially designed to handle geospatial data.
