Big Data & Linked Data

Everyone is now talking about Hadoop, NoSQL and Big Data. This very technic-centered discussion is all about scalability, performance and the question how to deal with large quanitities of data.

On the other hand "linked data" tackles the question how to make sense of all the large data pools on the web and from the intranet.

It seems to be promising to combine both worlds: In our meetup we will discuss how Big Data & Linked Data technologies could become a perfect match.

This meetup is organized in the spirit of a barcamp. Each participant will be asked to give a short talk about his/her perspective on 'Big Data/Linked Data'.

Some input for our discussion: Fujitsu has recently published an interesting slidedeck and paper about exactly this marriage:

    Nice exchange of ideas.

It my be fruitful to stick to a strict five-ten minute time limit (aka "lightning-format") for people to participate, as it allows people to "sample" a lot more of the space of ideas with a higher chance of finding something they are interested in.

As always very nice meetup, meeting interesting people and hearing great talks. Still i think the talks should be a bit shorter. (What happened to the max. 5 min lightning talks?)

Good initiative and interesting people. Would have loved to learn more about actual implementations. Pity though, that this topic (big data) is much too early Austria. Linked data seems more suited to help solve problems that Austrian companies face today. Great contribution from the Spanish team, that brought some international touch to the meetup. Thanks to SWC for organizing !

Ein etwas strafferes Format wäre vorteilhaft gewesen.

I would be happy to give a presentation about the role and the challenges of Linked Data in the news industry.

Please insert your input for our meetup here: Which topics would you like to discuss, do you want to give a (short) talk about one of your projects/ideas/activities in the fields of 'big data' and/or 'linked data'.
