Meetup #5

Hi hadoopers! :)

Time has come for our 5th meetup, which Exacaster kindly suggested to host for us. As usual we will have two talks:

• Building offer recommendations with Spark by Egidijus and Rokas from Exacaster

Exacaster will present how they used spark to built recommendations solution which transparently assigns 1000's of offers to millions of consumers. We will be sharing some thoughts about recommendation process and lessons learned.

• Interactive data-analysis with Spark-notebook by Vidmantas & Jonas from Vinted.

Spark Notebook (https://github.com/andypetrella/spark-notebook) is an open source tool that allows doing reproducible data analysis (http://simplystatistics.org/2014/06/06/the-real-reason-reproducible-research-is-important/) with Scala, Apache Spark and more. It has a wide adoption at Vinted today. We will describe the internals of Spark Notebook how it can be extended and compare the notebook with other similar products. Afterwards, we will do a demo of common use cases at Vinted (AB test analysis, prototyping, etc...).
