Vilnius.js Meetup #20

Details

At VilniusJS community the last day of spring is all about some fresh wind for the summer.

Location changes to a new Wix.com office at Didžioji g. 28, third floor.

Gabriel Grinberg (https://github.com/GabiGrin) will lure you into Rethinking web development with Elm by presenting an overview about the problems in Javascript when it comes to building complex web-apps, and how Elm aims to solve it.

Gabriel, a front-end developer at Wix.com, is enthusiastic about Elm and functional (reactive) programming and passionate about automating things. He is also teaching web technologies at a college in Tel Aviv.

Adam Terlson (https://github.com/adamterlson) is will perform a talk named " Does GoogleBot Scroll? Creating SEO-friendly Apps with JavaScript (and without Node)". He introduces the topic with this discussion: As our applications become ever-more client-side heavy, the saying goes that if you care about SEO, you have to do your rendering on the server. Or do you? Google claims to support crawling our client-side applications, but how far does that support go? Will Google see JS-rendered links and content? What breakpoint will it browse the page at? Will it scroll down and trigger infinite pagination? At InterNations, we experimented extensively to answer these questions and more to prepare for the relaunch of 40K externally facing pages. This talk may lead to more questions than answers, but will provide solid tips for what you can do to make your client-side application SEO friendly today, as well as things to avoid.

Originally from the US, now living in Munich Germany, Adam is an all-around JS fan boy, lead developer at InterNations, former independent consultant and also the organizer of the meetup group JavaScript Coding Nights in Munich.
