My place of work is looking for mentors for our 4th grade students. We need males, but could also still place females with some of our older students whose mentors have moved, finished their commitment, etc.
Brief details: 1-2 year commitment, 2/month flexible schedule, access to transportation and clean driving record required (more info on our website - www.buildingfuturesnow.org). As you all probably know, mentoring is a life-changing activity for both the mentor and mentee...
Bios of a couple of the BFN 4th grade boys who need mentors:
Oscar is in 4th grade at Brentwood Academy. He is a very happy and energetic boy who loves life. He is very easy-going and has a smile on his face all the time. He is happy playing soccer, learning, or helping his parents with his younger siblings. He likes school and is someone who gets very curious about new ideas and experiences. He is a boy who is very easy to get along with and makes a point to always say hello and ask how you are doing. He needs help with his reading and writing, but excels in math. Motivation, however, is not a problem for Oscar. He continually strives to do his best and get better. He is a great student with a lot of drive. His parents are both very supportive and encouraging and are excited for the opportunities that having a mentor will provide for Oscar.
Fabian is a 4th grade student at Woodland School. He has a sibling in 5th grade and knows all about having a mentor. He is very eager to get one of his own! Fabian has his own very distinct personality and is a typical middle child. He loves having attention that he does not have to share and the opportunity to be his own person without being compared to his older or younger brothers. He is a very mild tempered boy who likes sports, video games, and playing. He is not always the most open to things that he is not automatically good at, but is always polite and respectful. Fabian is very sweet and fun to be around. His parents are very supportive and his mother is EXTREMELY organized and responsible. She is very easy to coordinate with and appreciates any extra love and support given to her children.
Henry is in 4th grade at East Palo Alto Charter School and is a cousin of a 6th grade student, Gerardo, at BFN. He's particular excited about having a mentor after hearing about it from his cousin! He is a very bright little boy who likes school, loves adult attention and can be sensitive. He is a student who will have no problem getting to know his mentor and sharing lots about his life. He's very polite and always goes out of his way to greet all the teachers and adults at BFN each day. Henry is also a boy who loves to make and create things. Anything that involves creating, building, imagining, or even taking things apart is right up his alley. His family is very supportive, but has limited English and would also benefit from a Spanish-speaking mentor!
Thank you in advance for your help!
