What is a Jelly? Why do we call it a Jelly? "Jelly is casual coworking. We invite people to work from our home for the day. We provide chairs and sofas, wireless internet, and interesting people to talk to, collaborate with, and bounce ideas off of." -Jelly Founders Website

In New Orleans we've had Jellies in coffee shops, and at generous sponsors Launch Pad where we've worked across from Launch Pad TV preparing to go live, and at Trumpet Group at their Icehouse. Now we try Community Church UU - a house in Lakeview that was gutted and turned into a small meeting hall.

We started off drawing lots (a dozen or more) of curious folks, and then settled in to having four or five people coming.

I, David Wadleigh, intend to kick it up a notch, make it more rewarding to come, by "jelling" us into a closer team. I'd like to try spending perhaps half of the day each taking turns telling the group what problem or challenge we are trying to solve or meet, and then later going around to hear what each person has to say or suggest regarding our problem or challenge. Each of us would get several different suggestions or viewpoints to begin brain stormng from!

The advantages of coworking, aside from a break from the isolation of working from home in your pajamas with no human contact, include a cross pollination of ideas, interesting conversations, and the inspiration that comes from working in proximity to talented people, particularly those with a different expertise than your own.

Come out and meet new people, get out of the office, and drink free coffee (until some of us switch to beer in the afternoon). Coworking is an excellent way to get motivated, get inspired, and get down to business. Ask anyone who's attended a jelly--do it once, and there's no denying the value of coworking for virtually any one, in any industry. Join us. You'll see.
