Welcome! We are Japanese and English learners of all levels. We gather for Japanese-English conversation and reading and writing practice. The two organizers are Terry and Deborah. If you have questions about a meetup, please ask that meetup's organizer.

Please see the "Calendar" for meetup dates, use "Polls" to vote for the best meetup days, and introduce yourself with a few questions on your profile.

Please read the R.S.V.P. policy before attending your first meetup. It's very important!

Want to attend?

We'll practice commonly-used Japanese phrases and use them in conversation. There are several audio tools we've been using, so that depends who attends and what everyone has already done. We will also learn and practice Hiragana and Kanji, depending on the skill level of attending members. If you have never learned any Japanese writing, have no fear! Read more

I found out while shopping that there is some problem with them right now, so I wasn't able to make them for the potluck. Maybe you can substitute another pastry. (I did not feel like experimenting.) Hopefully stores will get them again soon.

American Chop Suey is a great family-style dish. Most people eat it hot, but it is good cold, too.

“Hi Donald, Welcome to WCJELM! Our members are Japanese speakers of all skill levels, from total beginners to native speakers. We do not discriminate. We try to have meetups twice a month. I look forward to seeing you at a meetup soon! We also have a special event coming up on November 7th, "International Potluck", which is a joint event with an organizer from another group. Friends and family are welcome. I will make sure to forward the email to you, which was sent out just last night.”
