Flowing with our summer series theme "Time Is of the Essence," WIFV Film Club invites you to join us for our July movie discussion of VICTORIA (2015), a German crime thriller directed and co-written by Sebastian Schipper. This award-winning film is shot in a single, uninterrupted take, and stars Laia Costa (NEWNESS, THE DIPLOMAT) and Frederick Lau (HEART OF STONE, THE CAPTAIN).

After a night of dancing and drinking, Victoria (Costa) meets Sonne (Lau) and his three friends and gets caught up in a night of crime.

Described as a "kinetic, frenetic, sense-swamping rollercoaster ride," VICTORIA has an 82% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and won German Film Awards for Best Fiction Film, Direction, Actress in a Leading Role (Costa), Actor in a Leading Role (Lau), Cinematography and Music.

Some questions for discussion:
 The film is shot in one single, uninterrupted take. How did this impact the visual storytelling, if at all?
 The script was 12 pages long, with most of the dialogue being improvised. Was this apparent as a viewer? Or did it add to the authenticity?
 Sebastian also shot a version the "traditional" way as a Plan B, to appease investors just in case the one-take version failed. The budget permitted only three attempts at the one-take version. As a filmmaker, is this something you would ever attempt?
 It has been said that "story is king" but can it be over-shadowed by an innovative method of telling the story? Is the story still king in VICTORIA?
