Journalism and Documentaries: What's the Difference?

Details
Ask someone to define “journalism,” and you'll probably get a pretty straight answer. In contrast, the definition of “documentary” is more nebulous. What’s the difference and where do you draw the line? On Wednesday, February 5, a distinguished panel will discuss the distinction at Interface Media.
Panelists will include:
• Patricia Aufderheide, director of American University’s Center for Media and Social Impact
• Chuck Lewis, MacArthur Foundation Grant recipient and former investigative producer for ABC News and 60 Minutes
• Judith Dwan Hallet, documentary producer
• Frances Hardin, documentary producer and former CNN White House correspondent
• Alicia Shepard, former NPR ombudsman
• Rick Young, producer for PBS's Frontline
