Transparency, hackability, extensibility, freedom, intellectual elegance, spirit of sharing, empowerment... shall I go on?
In 1993 when I first heard of Richard Stallman's pioneering efforts with GNU, replicating Unix goodness in a free environment. More recently, interest was rekindled in 2002 when I came across the Freenet crypto-anonymous distributed publishing network
NZ linux support community. Apologies it's taken me so long to get on board with WLUG
I've been a Linux user and some-time developer since 2003, but have only just now decided to crawl out of the woodwork and meet and work with other users.
