Albury Heath, Winterfold Wood and Lord Justice James' seat - 8.3 Miles (Hilly)

This walk starts in Albury Heath and leads us through beautiful Surrey countryside into Winterfold Woods. Eventually, after a steady climb we reach the top of the Greensand Way and 'Lord Justice James' Seat'. I'm not sure who he was and why he had his own seat but it has great views to the South Downs.

We then follow the ridge down again via sunken lanes to a secluded valley where we will have a picnic lunch - so make sure you bring your own sandwiches and drinks etc.

The remainder of the walk takes us back over Farley Heath, via a Roman Temple (site of) to the car park. There is no pub on the trip but there is the William IV pub in Little London, a few minutes walk from where the cars are parked if any one wants to enjoy a drink after the walk.

I estimate the walk will take 4-5 hours to complete including the picnic break.

Good walking shoes/boots are recommended and suitable wet weather gear just in case of rain.

The forecast for tomorrow (Sunday 20th) is looking rainy. Check your emails and/or Meetup website before leaving home to make sure the walk is not cancelled.

Hi all, thanks for your comments and suggestions. We've been experimenting with different booking options and the fairest way we think is to make it 'first come first served' on the waiting list. This ensures everyone gets a chance to join the walk and we don't have lots of no shows on the day. I'd love to take more walkers as well but, as Philippa said leading 25 plus people around is a bit of a handful - lovely as everyone is! On this occasion however I'll open the walk to another 3 people.

Harry, we undertstand your wishes, but it's really up to Mike, as walk leader for this one, and whether he fancies having in excess of 30 people following him, with more liklihood of people walking slowly and getting left behind. Not ideal really. Hang in there and a space is sure to appear.

As there is no pub stop for lunch and only 11 waiting, may I suggest that all those waiting are included :-) -- come Sunday morning numbers will probably drop to 25-30

    Hi confirmed walkers,

Can I ask you all to double check that you can make the walk on Sunday as we have quite a few people on the waiting list. My number if you need it is 07766 012146. Don't forget the picnic!

The walk will be open to RSVP on 29th April at 10.30am so everyone should have an equal chance of joining it.
