Announcing a new Meetup for Walking thru the Valley of Heart's Delight & Hiking Around!

What: Hollywood in the Redwoods (Felton) -- Walk, movie, mystery

When: August 7,[masked]:30 PM

Satellite Telework Center
6265 Highway 9
Felton, CA

Felton and Boulder Creek were a favorite spot for several actors of the silent screen era. Local historian Randall Brown is hosting a summer series of silent films shot in and around Felton and Boulder Creek.
?Not too many people realize that the San Lorenzo Valley was a hotbed of film production at the turn of the century,? Brown said. ?A number of well-known silent film actors liked to get away from Hollywood and enjoyed shooting films in the Santa Cruz mountains.?

This Friday's film is Blue Blazes Rawden, from 1918. "Rawden, a lumberjack in the North woods, fights with crooked dance hall owner 'Ladyfingers' Hilgard over the affections of Babette DuFresne. Hilgard is killed. When Hilgard's mother and younger brother arrive in the remote logging town, Rawden attempts to ease their suffering by creating the fiction that Hilgard had been a well-loved man who died naturally. But when young Eric Hilgard learns the truth of his brother's death, he comes gunning for Rawden." Click here for more about the film.

Part one: We'll meet in front of Satellite Telework Centers and head off for about an hour and fifteen minutes through residential streets of Felton, replete with trees and beautiful mountain vistas. Good invigorating walk with just a bit of hill for added exercise benefits. If you miss the departure time, call and perhaps you can catch up with us on a nearby street. There are several nearby markets and taquerias nearby where you could get a compact supper to eat during the film.

Part two: About 6:45 we'll be back at Satellite for the film.

Part three: After the movie, we'll continue a few miles up Highway 9 to the famous and allegedly-haunted Brookdale Inn and Spa (formerly Brookdale Lodge -- click here) where several famous film stars cavorted. We'll get a quick drink and see if we can get in to the Mermaid Bar where the paintings of said stars adorn the wall.

Carpool departs Sunnyvale courthouse (El Camino at Mathilda) at 4:30 SHARP -- unless of course at the last minute I'm sent down to San Jose to work, so it'd be a good idea to give me your phone number if you plan on meeting there.
