We’re heading up into the mountains where it’ll be a bit cooler (by about 10 degrees) next Sunday (7/29). We’ll do a 9-mile afternoon hike (yes, you can sleep in a little) with 3500 feet of elevation change (moderate or 3.5 blisters) that includes spectacular views from the Miller’s Head, Little Stony Man, and Stony Man, which at 4011 feet, is the park’s second-highest peak. The hike will be in (and on) two legs of 5.6 and 3.4 miles, with car and bathroom access in between). The second leg will feature a pot-luck dinner, accompanied by one of those spectacular views; appetizers will have been eaten in the first leg. Bring food that reflects your family's heritage.
Reservations are required since attendance is limited. So please email me directly if you are interested and I will send you more details. We will meet at the Vienna Metro Station north Park & Ride (open) lot at 10:30 AM. We should be back to DC area by 9 pm. The hike is a joint event with Environment VA.
We lucked out with the weather last Sunday—clouds kept the temps lower and the rain had the decency to stay away. Here are pix: https://picasaweb.google.com/113258319599232463581/BlackHillWaddle#slideshow. We spent a lot of time looking like animals looking at plants.
