01. Spotkanie Web Performance Warsaw

Details

Polish:

Stało się! Pierwsze spotkanie grupy poświęconej wydajności webowej przed nami! Gorąco zapraszam wszystkich zainteresowanych, zaczynamy z przytupem.

Zapraszamy! Przyjdź i przyprowadź kogoś jeszcze!

English:

It is happening! The very first meetup of Warsaw Web Performance Group! Please feel invited! And bring someone with you:) Although this is a Polish-based group, due to our excellent guest - we will be speaking English a little either.

  1. Andreas Grabner - Uber-Style: Why and How to Automate (Web|App) Performance Metrics into your Pipeline

Abstract:

Most of us want to build the next Uber, Spotify or Facebook-like app/service. Thanks to WPO (Web Performance Optimization) we know how to optimize our web sites for desktops, tablets, and mobile devices. But just building a nice looking web frontend that works well when you launch the app is not enough as you need to build for high scalability and rapid deployments. Building a build delivery pipeline, automating your deployments and applying some of the DevOps ideas such as promoted from Amazon, Netflix, CreditOne and others are milestones to get you closer. But BE WARNED: just pushing code faster through a pipeline will just result in even more horror stories about crashed websites or unresponsive mobile apps.

In this session I bring examples of apps that failed miserably (some you may have heard in the News), explain why they failed (looking at metrics), and how you can avoid these bad deployments by adding key web performance (# resources, # domains, JS Execution, …) and application performance (# of SQL, # of Service Calls, # of Objects Allocated …) metrics into your delivery pipeline. Automated of course! This will stop Bad Code from ruining your days/nights/weekends J

Bio:

I’ve been crashing apps and analyzed why they don’t scale in the last 15+ years. I helped analyzed 200+ app performance issues in the last 12 months and have the luxury situation that my employer (Dynatrace) allows me to travel the world and share my stories at User Groups, Meetups and Conferences. I was fortunate to meet people like Steve Souders (WPO Influencer), John Resig (creator of jQuery), Mark Tomlinson (host of perfbytes.com) and others in the performance space. I try to continue what they are doing by educating devs, testers, architects, ops, devops, … about these problem patterns and best practices so we can all build Uber-Style apps.

Some of my presentations from my recent JavaOne, Java South Africa, Velocity, STPCon, Web Perf Meetups in Boston/New York/Berlin … can also be found on YouTube.

  1. Konrad Kokosa - Web performance - what, why and how?

Abstract:

Web application performance is not a thing that we can add at the end of the project when we recall about it. To have an efficient system, performance must be taken into consideration from the very beginning of the project. But why web performance is so important and why should anyone bother? And what "performance" exactly is? How to take it into account? How to measure it? During the session, we answer these questions a bit. We will learn about the current challenges. We will take a brief review of interesting tools. But the most important message of this session is to encourage a conscious and committed approach to the subject of web performance. This will be hopefully general introduction into the topic which this group is dedicated for. Come and be inspired!

Bio:

10 years of developers live. Previously in love with C++, from 8 years big .NET enthusiast, but looking with curiosity at other technologies. Starting from desktop development, last years spent in web developers world. Currently .NET developer and architect at Bank Millennium. In love with performance topics, such like performance troubleshooting, monitoring, and testing, especially in the web context. Passionate in blogging (http://blog.kokosa.net) and public speaking, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N352pWw5oXo),) truly willing to share his knowledge and experience, especially related to the above-mentioned performance issues.
