Learn to dance Salsa for beginners!

Ever wanted to learn to dance Salsa?? Have you been putting it off due to a fear of dancing, thinking you have 2 left feet or just a bit of shyness?

Don't think you're alone I was the same way! I never thought I could dance Salsa a couple months back till I finally found Lines Dance Studio. At Lines Dance Studio the priority is to make dancing affordable, fun and easy regardless of your age or skill level. the reason why I recommend this place is because I have seen first hand how fast students learn here. We took some girls dancing from the beginner class after only a month of classes! They are already taking intermediate level classes. In no other dance studio in the Portland area are you going to find students that learn as fast. Trust me I have danced with students from other studios and I can tell the difference and you will too.

Lines Dance Studio offers the most affordable dance classes in the 503 with the best deals (trust me I know i researched all the studios in the Portland area before i joined this one). Your first class is $10 which is the flat fee for all their classes and that doesn't change if you are a beginner or advanced student. Most studios in the Portland area start charging you more as you get good, but here the classes always stay $10 and all the classes are drop in no registration required.

INSTRUCTIONS

---- WHAT: Beginners Salsa Class

---- WHEN: Every Sunday from 2:15pm to 3:15pm (but we often forget time when having fun so don't be surprised if we end up staying longer than that). I'll be there to greet all members and if for some reason I'm not there just ask for instructor Ana or Benny.

---- WHERE: Lines Dance Studio which is 230 E Main St, Hillsboro, OR. It is easily accessible by MAX there is a stop right by the dance studio so check the trimet website if you are using public transportation. You can find more information on how to get to Lines Dance Studio on the website.

---- PRICE: $10 cash (sorry no checks or credit cards) which you can pay to instructor Ana at the end of class.

--- PARKING: There's plenty of parking everywhere no time limits you can stay as long as you want. The best parking is right behind the building. If you need me to show you let me know.

---- WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING:

Comfortable loose clothing: It will get hot after a few minutes salsa is great exercise! I would recommend you wear whatever you wear to a gym.

Shoes: Ideally shoes with a leather sole. Sneakers with a rubber sole are not recommended as they make it hard to do turns and you might hurt yourself. For ladies heels are recommended 2 or 3 inches.

If you want information on dance shoes speak with instructor Ana after class she can point you in the right direction.

Water: They do sell water bottles for 50c but you can bring your own and trust me you might need it as salsa can kick your butt! There's a starbucks/subway and restaurants at walking distance if you want to get coffee/something to eat before or after the class.

Relaxed, open attitude: I know learning to dance can seem challenging and make people nervous but bring a relaxed and open attitude to learning. Salsa is not really hard specially if you got great instructors that care and take the extra time to making sure their students learn as Ana does. Also don't get frustrated if you do not get the steps/moves right away. Remember that you are educating your feet and body to do movement it is probably not used to so don't get angry at yourself.

Gum: As a courtesy to your fellow students remember you might be dancing with someone so be ready :)

A friend: The more the merrier if you got a friend that is interested in learning salsa bring them along! We got 2 dance floors and 3 Salsa instructors so no worries. It would be a great way to get more people into the 20 and 30 something in Portland group and into Salsa.

---- WHY?: Why should you learn to dance Salsa? Salsa is fun, exciting, sexy, social, diverse. The Portland Salsa scene is awesome and is always growing.

Why did I learn Salsa? Because it enriched my life and that's the most common thing people will tell you, and it can enrich yours too. You will meet tons of new people from diverse backgrounds, you will have a ton of fun, get great exercise and gain confidence in yourself. So don't be shy and come join us! Your only regret will be not having taken classes sooner. :D

IF YOU REALLY WANT TO SPEED UP YOUR LEARNING

I recommend practicing at home and taking at least 2 classes a week. When you think you're ready Lines Dance Studio offers other classes as well if you want to check them out.

Beginner/intermediate classes Tuesdays/Fridays at 7pm & Sundays at 12:10pm (intermediate footwork class) and 1:10pm Partner work.
