Please join us for our first general meeting of the Washington DC Area Apache Spark Interactive Meetup on Thursday, June 12, 2014 from 6 - 9pm at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library (Room A-5) located on 901 G St NW, Washington, DC 20001 (near Gallery Place and Metro Center Metro stations). We are excited to have Ryan Fishel, Cloudera Solutions Consultant and Jeremy Freeman, Neuroscientist & Group Leader with Janelia Farm Research Campus, to provide an overview of Apache Spark and discuss how they are using this exciting technology. We’ll spend the first half hour networking then kick-off presentations at 6:30pm followed by an interactive panel discussion.
SPEAKER BIOS

Ryan Fishel - Ryan is a Solutions Consultant at Cloudera, primarily in the Federal space. He is super passionate about open source, distributed computing and how technology can relate to the physical world. In his spare time, he builds drones (of the flying variety), dabbles in robotics, and climbs lots of rocks. He has also accidentally acquired three cats.
Jeremy Freeman - Jeremy is a Group Leader at the Janelia Farm Research Campus, using computation to understand how neural circuits encode sensory information and guide behavior. Jeremy received a BA with high honors in neuroscience from Swarthmore College. He earned a PhD in neural science at the Center for Neural Science at New York University. Jeremy previously spoke at the 2013 Spark Summit about his exciting research mapping the brains of a fish using Apache Spark.
