Apache Spark Lessons Learned

Big Data consultant and Spark contributor Madhu Siddalingaiah will present his experiences using and developing Spark including demonstrating real-life examples.

Specifically, Madhu will discuss:

• Why and how Spark achieves high performance

• The kinds of problems best suited for Spark

• Which language to choose for development

• How to quickly develop an effective proof of concept

• Potential risks and mitigation strategies

Bio: Madhu Siddalingaiah is a technology consultant with 25 years experience in a variety business domains such as aerospace, health care, financial, energy, defense, and scientific research. More recently, Madhu has delivered several high profile big data systems and solutions. Madhu is also co-author of Pro Apache Hadoop published by Apress. Madhu earned his physics degree from the University of MD. Outside of work, Madhu is a private helicopter pilot, enjoys travel and a constantly growing list of hobbies.

We are excited to hold this Meetup at Palantir's McLean offices. For this location, pre-registration is required. As you RSVP for this event, you'll be asked for your name, email, and affiliation. Please RSVP a day before the Meetup on the 25th to ensure you are included in the list of attendees. Check in is on the 8th floor and a valid government-issued ID is required.

Parking:

There's a small parking lot in the front of the building where people can park for free. Once that's full, there's a parking deck in the back of the building where people will have to take a ticket that Palantir can validate inside. We encourage members to use the front lot first.

Metro:

The new Silver line is now up and running! Attendees may take the Silver line to the Greensboro exit (Tyson's) which is only a short walk away (.4 miles) from Palantir's offices.
