Urban Zombie Survival (Zombie Tag)

*IMPORTANT* GAME RULES *IMPORTANT*

PLEASE READ THROUGH THE RULES AT LEAST ONCE TO FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH GAME PLAY.

Meet up location and game boundaries

The plan is to take Montrose Park and turn it into a zombie survival map. Can you survive against the Undead Horde? Different missions will be planned to put your survival skills to the test including:

Doctor Escort:

Bob Loblaw, MD has the antidote to save humankind and has made himself immune. The Living must find and escort Dr. Loblaw to a safe zone while evading the zombies who pursue them. If all of The Living are transformed, the Zombies win. If The Doctor is saved, The Living might just have a chance.

Zombie Assassination:

Every army needs a leader - even the Undead. Without a leader, the army cannot function. In this game, The Living must act as a commando squad to locate and assassinate the Zombie Leader, then hustle back to the safe zone.

The Last Stand of The Living:

All is lost. The world is overrun and the only thing you can do is prolong the inevitable. A small group of The Living are pinned down and surrounded with a large, but limited supply of ammunition. How long will you be able to survive?

What Should I Bring?

Costumes:

Zombie costumes are encouraged, especially if you want to be the "Original Zombie" or one of the special Zombie characters. A few generous makeup artists have offered to provide movie-grade zombie makeup for a few lucky participants. Move fast to claim your spot!

Weapons:

Weaponry is a must-have if you expect to survive but please limit to nerf guns with small darts and balled-up socks. If you don't already have a nerf gun, balled-up socks are a great alternative. Bring as much as you can carry, but remember that you'll be expected to clean up after yourself and take home what you bring.

Misc.

Water.

After the game is done, everyone is welcome to stagger over to the Bier Baron to join up with the other Reddit Meet-up.

It's my intention to provide ID markers for the participants based on the number of RSVP's and a few extras but if some people could bring their own it would help cover anyone who attends but didn't register.

Sam - No melee's please, wouldn't want any unintentional injuries. David (and all) - The event will proceed rain or shine cancelled only by thunderstorms. The forecast has improved from earlier in the week and I'm feeling confident that we'll have acceptable weather for the event. I will re-evaluate tomorrow in the early afternoon to make a final decision.

I took a look at the forecast for tomorrow... it ain't pretty. Just wondering if we're on rain or shine, or what.

Depending on how the first games go, we may need to adjust respawn time of the zeds.

    Also - No melee weapons??

Hey all, game rules have been posted in the description so please give them a read. Hopefully this will cut down on the amount of time spent explaining before starting the game and reduce in-game disputes.

    "Sock Mace"

Or you could roll one sock into a ball, stuff it in the other sock, and SWING IT LIKE A BALL ON A CHAIN ALL CAVEMAN STYLE.

I think balled socks are the way to go but I do want to incorporate the tennis balls in a special mission. I'm thinking about planning 2-3 set missions to play through during the event. I think we can ask people to bring 4-6 sock bombs with them and make extras for those who forgot or didn't bring. Let me know if you want me to contribute some funds for the communal stuff like socks, glowsticks, water, etc.

Couple of folks and I were discussing this after the ctf game, we were thinking of collecting nerf guns or just use rolled up socks from costco as the cheapest and safest solutions. Thoughts?

i had several ideas about what was going to happen with the socks, none of which were any good. first, i was thinking the socks would be thrown sort of like the way you'd flick a rubber band, which obviously wouldn't work very well. then i was thinking we'd slap people with socks to tag them, which would look ridiculous. then i was thinking maybe they would act as flags, sort of like flag football? like i said, all terrible ideas. i'm just going to back away slowly into the bushes now.

Solved - We'll plan an assassination mission where the Humans have to kill a certain zombie with the special weapon (tennis ball). Limited ammo (6 rounds) and one-use per ball. Would that work for you?

Trust me, I'm with you but I'd rather err on the side of caution for the first event. If you're "dead set" on the idea, bring some balls and we could incorporate them as a special weapon of sorts - we'll just make sure they're adequately padded.

    April 11, 2011

  • Chris Di R.

really guys? Sock covered Tennis balls sound like the least menacing weapon we could think of. I dont really see the problem in it as long as none of us are juicers who can throw 90mph

    Matt-

Great points, I will take all those things into consideration when I write up the event rules. I'll also put in rules for different game variations so that we have some reference if we decide to change game types during the event. Do you have any interest in helping me plan some missions and possibly be a moderator/referee for part of the event?

    Wait.. CTF wasn't tackle?!

Tennis balls hurt if they're thrown hard. After playing with some of the guys (looking at you, Marines) who seemed to tag people by tackling them, I'd be pretty nervous about having tennis balls being thrown in the dark..

Can there be tennis-balls in the socks?

Also, once tagged, how do you know that someone is a zombie?
The only thing i can think of is everyone starts out wearing 2 shirts one black one white, when your a zombie you take off the white shirt? Also there will most-likely bee a need for flashlights for when it gets dark for hiding/spotting in the woods...or everyone gets glow sticks around their neck again.

Final thoughts, how do you know when there are no more humans? it is a big park

...socks? what do we do with the socks?

    April 11, 2011

David/Samuel - We could have people bring socks with them as well to get around people having to spend money on nerf guns. I'm also planning on typing out the rules for this thing and sending it to everyone prior to the event so there's less bickering while in-game. Let me know if you have any real preference for how the guns/socks should be used. I do really like the idea of people running around as commandos though.

That would be sweet, the only issue is providing nerf for 50 people. I suppose we could have a couple thrown in as an added "easter egg" of sorts - imagine 3-4 "commando" characters that can either kill/stun or transform zombies back during the game. I'm open to all sorts of variations.

    April 11, 2011

  • S.J.

Is there any interest in doing a humans vs zombies CTF scenario with nerf?
