Let's Help Out The Community and Deliver Food w/ Food For All DC (r/DDOS)

Hey all!! To coincide with the annual Reddit Dedicated Day of Service, I figure we can lend a helping hand to Food For All DC, a non-profit charity that delivers to the elderly, handicapped, and others in situations of need.

We would first come in at 9 AM where we prepare and pack boxes of groceries(The packing usually takes about 45 mins to 1 hr). Afterwards we are given assigned routes and go around the city to deliver the food to the clients. These routes normally contain between 6-8 deliveries and take about 1-2 hours.

For this event, we would need 15-20 volunteers(that as many they can have for one group, but I'm currently talking to the Site Coordinator into seeing if we can bump it up the number).

One thing to note is that volunteers will need to bring their own cars and/or be able to drive; so if you can able to loan your car to the cause, it'll be greatly appreciated. If you can't drive, you can also sign up as a navigator and help drivers on the deliveries.

I'll create a spreadsheet in the coming days so people can write down if they want to be drivers or navigators.

See you all there!

Hey, once we're done with the deliveries, let's try to get back to the church for a group photo op

Me, Eric and a couple of ppl are here already. Unfortunately there's no parking near the church so try to find spots close by. When you get to the church, we're in the back of it where the grey doors are

Hey all, I'm on my way and should be at the church in the next 1/2 hour. When you get there, look for the black guy with jeans and the dark navy shirt(i.e. me). If you need to reach me, here's my cell:[masked]

Also just an FYI if you're taking the red line from Shady Grove, they're running buses in places of trains between Friendship Heights and Grovesnor

    Eric,

I was really looking forward to helping out on Saturday and meeting you guys but unfortunately, I was just informed by my boss that 2012 Year-End Closing starts on Monday and he asked if I would come in to work tomorrow. I will definitely be at the next one. SORRY!

Hey Chip and group - I thought I would be able to drive, but it turns out that I have to be back at my house by 11:30 am or so... I'll help with the packing/coordination of delivery, but I don't think I can participate in actually bringing food anywhere. Sorry! I'll still be there for the first half, at least.

I see that you already have 24 attending so, do you still need volunteers?

    September 20, 2012

    • Eric

Yes! Please sign up, I'm sure we can find a use for the extra bodies!

Are we still limited to 20? i.e, no more people can sign up...

Unfortunately, Food For All DC will only be 20 to help with the packing part, but the spokesperson that I've been talking to said we can have more for the delivery part so if you have a car or if you want to be a navigator, you're more than welcome to come

Hey all, I just put up the link for the sign-up sheet on the description, so go at it

I've spoken with Graeme, the site coordinator, and we're good to go for the 22nd. Unfortunately, I was not able to get the number of volunteers bump up past 20 due to they have a small space to work in at the church and 30 would be too cramped for the packaging part of the volunteer work. However, he did offered that if more people want to help with the delivery part, that shouldn't be a problem. So if you have a car and can't make the packaging part, you can come on by to help with the delivery

As far as parking is concerned for our drivers, he told me there's spots around the church, so that shouldn't be an issue. For those of you coming via metro, the closest stop is Dupont Circle, and then it's a walk up New Hampshire Avenue NW until you reach S St. NW. I'll post up a map of the area so you can gauge how to get there.

Can't wait to see you all on the 22nd!!
