10gen will be hosting MongoDC 2012 on June 26th.

MongoDC is an annual one-day conference in Washington, DC dedicated to the open source, non-relational database MongoDB.

A few members of the Washington DC MongoDB Users Group will be presenting at MongoDC.  Come out to this meet-up to get a preview of some of the talks and provide feedback and constructive criticism to the presenters.

Agenda

  • 6:30-7:00: meet, greet, & eat
  • 7:00-7:15: welcome, announcements, & introductions
  • 7:15-9:00: presentations & discussion
  • 9:00-9:30: networking, etc.

This meetup will be held at the CustomInk offices in McLean. The location is great for a meetup, if a little difficult to find. Be sure to grab the Driving Directions or Metro Directions.

I've been enjoying this discussion and have put some thoughts over on the discussion board - http://www.meetup.com/Washington-DC-MongoDB-Users-Group/messages/boards/thread/24413952

Looking forward to seeing everyone tonight.

July's meeting is planned for a DC location.

    Thanks,
    Nathen

MongoDB is on such a growth spurt that I honestly think there is enough interest out there for a DC-centered MongoDB meetup to run concurrently as well. Nothing against CustomInk/Nathen and the FANTASTIC job they do and should/will continue to. I just think the "market" can support both. DC is tough for NoVAers and vice versa. The really dedicated will attend both. Let's just at least please make sure that they are not on the same night. :-)

I think Andy's offer to use their DC facility is very generous. However, I really like the CustomInc location for the meetings (living in NoVa). I would vote to keep it there. In general, DC folks will want it in DC, and NoVa folks will want it NoVa...

Not to rock the boat or anything, but I think MongoNoVa is a super cool name. MongoNoVa sorta sounds like a rock band.

Anyway, for those of us who actually live/work in DC, NoVa is *NOT* DC. Just saying...

Anyone going to the meeting from Reston?

I would probably actually show up if this group met in DC, as it is I can't justify getting out to NoVA =/

Getting out to meetups in Tyson's from DC is definitely a haul for those of us without cars... usually a combo metro+zipcar endeavor (making it a bit spendy as well for the car rental). This isn't unique to Mongo. That said, I totally get that for folks outside of DC proper, coming into the heart of the city during rush hour can be similarly daunting.

    I agree with Wes.

customink is a great venue ... I vote to stay put.

I would go much less frequently to a DC venue. Obviously, I'm just one person, but Tysons is much more convenient for me--and Custom Ink is a nice space. If it were significantly bigger than Custom Ink, that would be another thing, because there have been a few waiting lists--but I think the limit has been around 100 there as well. Just my point of view.

@Nathen and other MongoDC members are you guys interested in changing the meetup venue to be in DC and not VA? We, Logik, host the monthly DCRug meetup (http://www.meetup.com/dcruby/) at our office in DC. We also happen to be BIG mongoDB users.

We're @ 1400 I Street, right above McPherson Metro stop. The space can hold about 100 or so comfortably.

Let me know if any of you are interested: [masked]

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
