WWTO June 2014: Hexoskin, MeU & IDC Canada Wearable Report

Details

Our June event explores Connected Textiles as we look at how connected clothing can help us better express ourselves (MeU) and better understand ourselves (Hexoskin).

The night will kick off with IDC Canada presenting findings from its recent report (http://view.exacttarget.com/?j=fe5c1577766101757314&m=fe661570746305787d16&ls=fdde1c78706c0d7d7c13727c&l=fe9b16767464017e76&s=fe1b1c7472630678731376&jb=ffcf14&ju=fe2515797c62077c761175&r=0) "Canadian Consumer Wearables 2014-2018 Forecast". After that Toronto-based MeU will present and demo its LED matrix meant to be worn on the body to display information. Followed by Montreal-based Hexoskin who will present and demo its biometric shirt that tracks movement, respiration and heart activity.

About the Tech

MeU (http://themeu.net/about/) (pronounced mi-you) is a flexible LED matrix that is meant to be worn on the body to display information. It is a modular system of flexible 8 x 8 LED matrices controlled by a smartphone via bluetooth. It is meant to be embedded into clothing and accessories such as jackets, shirts, pants and bags. MeU is designed to be removable so the user can wash the article of clothing, charge the battery or put it in another piece of clothing.

Hexoskin (http://www.hexoskin.com/) is a smart device that connects to a compatible high tech intelligent garment with integrated sensors that captures body metrics including heart rate, breathing rate and acceleration. The Hexoskin intelligent shirt offers an easy and more natural way of regularly capturing precise data. Trainers of amateur and professional athletes and sports teams who want to monitor and evaluate performance results use Hexoskin. Hexoskin has been used by the Canadian Space Agency, Olympic medalists Dufour-Lapointe sisters and Washington Capital's Tomas Kundratek.
