Trevor Parsons, Co-Founder and Chief Scientist of Logentries, will speak on the following topic:
Application performance monitoring tools can be used to profile your custom applications and the software they run on (web servers, applications servers etc.) that make up your systems. They can collect a range of information that can help dig into your system performance such as resource usage information (CPU and Memory), software exceptions, response times, and even transaction traces across distributed components. APM solutions are great for pinpointing exactly ‘where’ a bottleneck exists. However, you cant always piece together the ‘context’ about what exactly was happening in your system at that time. Log data is commonly used in conjunction with APM solutions to help complete the picture. Logs provide forensic information as to the exact system events or user actions that lead to an issue or performance degradation. This talk will outline how APM and logging solutions can be used as complementary tools for a range of use cases including real user monitoring, end to end transaction tracing, identifying performance bottlenecks as well as complex threading issues.
