What's Benchmarking and Why it’s an Important Contributor to your Online Strategy:

The evolution of web and mobile sites adding the latest technology to engage customers or drive sales in a constantly changing environment challenges the fundamentals of providing efficient and reliable site performance.

Benchmarking is a key tool in determining whether your site performance is supporting your business goals and technically effective compared to industry leaders and your key competitors. Benchmarking, the process of comparing performance and best practices to the leading providers in your industry provides a basis for strategic business discussions, technical decision making and project prioritization.

Is your site as comparatively efficient and available as current averages for your industry? How do your site’s metrics compare to the leaders? Are you able to track your site’s performance change over time when your competitors aren’t standing still either? Do you know how your site enhancements impact your performance standing in an ever changing web and mobile landscape?

This session will cover how Web performance benchmarking can help you address performance questions and why this comparative measurement approach is important to help you gauge consumer expectations in your industry allowing you to make better decisions about investments in optimization projects. The session will also offer a list of best practices for benchmarking web and mobile site performance based on current competitive analysis.

Jonathan was not the world's most dynamic speaker and at times looked ill at ease, but his content was compelling and informative.

I will ask Jonathan to pass his slides over after the talk and send them out - we'll try to record it as well but I think our normal video guy is unable to make it tonight - sorry!
