Everybody knows the big thing is Big Data (http://www.economist.com/node/21537922)
And the Holy Grail of Big Data is huge amounts of data that arrive in real-time - visible and comprehendible by large numbers of users all at once.
Let us call this: massively multiplayer online real-time data visualization or MMORDV. An MMORDV has to be like an MMORPG (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massively_multiplayer_online_role-playing_game): 3D, animated, interactive and shareable. Unlike an MMORPG, an MMORDV should operate without server farms, be accessible to all levels of coders and be free of DRM.
Actually, when you think about it, all of this is a piece of cake.
Here is the real issue: Can Edward Tufte (http://www.edwardtufte.com/tufte/) be defeated? Is it possible for a human brain that is permeated with decades of static, 2D, paper-like diagrams to be so transformed that it can absorb, nay, thirst for bi-ocular, Kinect-ed wiggly-worlds of numerical representations!?!
