Building systems using the Actor Model paradigm

Details

The Actor Model paradigm is a great way to build systems that have to handle a large concurrent workload. Languages like Erlang and Scala have native support for Actor Model built in. But also several great frameworks are available to use this paradigm in other languages. Microsoft has released a product called Azure Service Fabric, which can be used to build Actor Model systems. So there are plenty of ways in which you can leverage this paradigm in your systems.

But what are the trade-offs? And can we identify whether or not certain problem-spaces are more suitable than other for solving using an Actor Model implementation? These are the questions we would like to discuss with you.

We will start-off this MeetUp with a presentation of a real-world example of a system using Akka and some demos of Akka.NET and Azure Service Fabric to show you how you can use these products to build Actor Model based systems. After that we would love to harvest any experiences "from the trenches" in the room and discuss the application of Actor Model in certain problem-spaces with you.

We hope to welcome you all to this MeetUp. The venue this time is our training location in Utrecht (walking distance from the central trainstation).
