Well, we survived the Holiday Season and we are now moving quickly into the new year. I am already scheduling out as far as June, and I can imagine everyone else's calendar looks similar. I just want to touch bases with the group and let everyone in on some of my plans and ideas. I would like to welcome our new members as well as thank our long time members for being active with the group.
Many of you know that I have spent the last few weeks in Japan. I have been getting a lot of warm, friendly emails asking about the trip and wanting to see photos. Thank you for your friendliness and interest. The trip was amazing! The people and food were better than I could have imagined, and the country was very welcoming. Soon, in our discussions area, I will post links to the blog and to a flicker site for those that would like to check it out. I still have some jet lag so be patient.
Also, you will start noticing some changes in my profile. After a wonderful 6 months with Cygnus Studios, the studio brand will be going through some very positive changes. I will still be working closely with the team at Cygnus but also doing independent photography under Enlightened Shadows Photography. I am now also making myself available to the group for one on one consulting and for private shoots. I will still be grouping some outings and workshops with San Francisco North Bay Smugs like I have done in the past. In fact coming up this weekend, there will be an advanced lighting workshop. We only have 7 spaces left. If you would like to sign up, please use this link http://www.fisheyeconnect.com/workshop/619/posing-and-lighting-workshop.aspx and follow on this site for ongoing workshops.
For the coming year, I have some really cool adventures planned. Here in February, I am really looking forward to our trip to Yosemite. In the spring, I would like to organize a wild flower excursion and then again something similar in the fall with the leaves- maybe in the Eastern Sierras. After that I am working on some overnight permits, private events only open to members of West County Photography, and some workshops focusing on social media, lighting and work flow. I am teaming up with some local photographers as guest speakers and guest instructors for workshops. There is even a possibility of some Vegas fun happening at the end of the year. I would really love to hear your ideas about events and shooting ideas, as well as workshop ideas. If you would like to be a guest speaker, please email me privately.
For those of us that are on Facebook, please check out our group page ( https://www.facebook.com/pages/West-County-Photography-Group/371741013913 ) as I often have really cool tidbits of gear info, general photography articles, tips and tricks as well as our ongoing calendar. The articles, tips and gear info are ONLY on the Facebook page. I also encourage posting your own photos and commenting. I do try to keep my personal life private from my photography life, and do not make a habit of friending members of the group. It's not personal. However I would love to follow your photography page! Send me a link and I will share it with the group.
I have been getting a lot of emails about image posting, so here are my guide lines. Please edit images to be a JPEG, and about 1000 or less on the long side at 72 dpi or web quality. Post images to a related event or folder. I encourage water marks on your images, but they are not required. Limit your photos to 10-15 images per event, and try not to have similar images. Please do not post images as files. The File section is for PDFs, articles or how to get large image files to me for printing. We also have a group Flickr page for your overflow. Log into your Flickr account, and then search West County Photo Group. I have also arranged a CRITIQUE PLEASE folder if you would like some honest feedback on your images. It is under the PHOTOS tab.
Lastly, most of you know I am pretty strict on NO SHOWS, but just to retouch... If you reserve for an event, I do expect you to keep your reservation. If you are not able to attend for any reason, please change your rsvp. I am available either by phone or by email if it is a last minute change.
I'm really looking forward to the adventures of the coming year. If you have any suggestions, questions, comments or to schedule a private consultation please feel free to email me privately at [address removed] or call me at[masked]-7943. Thanks for being such a wonderful group of passionate photographers.
