What an exciting year it's been. We've had so many new members join and so many others participating more. If you haven't noticed, we are just 5 members short of being 200, and our Facebook page is just 5 short of 100 likes. The online assignments seem to be going over well and members are stepping up to make awesome suggestions. Most recently Tim Morgan and Patrick Campbell have made great efforts towards organizing group meet ups and my dearest Thank You to both of them. Thanks to the whole group for the participation, making this an exciting place to hang out.
We have some very exciting things on the WCPG horizon. This friday is (weather permitting fingers crossed XX) is a very relaxing and fun shoot at the Sutro Bath Ruins. In late August, we are spending the weekend on Angel Island- day use welcome and no need to RSVP for the day. Sometime in the fall, I would like to see possibly a trip out to the Eastern Sierras including Mono Lake and maybe even Bodie. I would also like to maybe even see a group picnic before the weather changes.
Also, I have made some contacts at the Pacific Coast Air Museum. They have agreed to let me plan a private event with at least one, if not two models dressed in period clothes, maybe with some vintage luggage and other fun props! I need at least 12, but more likely upwards of 15 people to commit before I can book anything. We are at the mercy of when they are available, so the dates are slim pickings. We can either do the Friday Sept 7th or Friday Sept 14th. Start time will probably be 10-11 am, and ending 1-2ish. We can have 3 and 1/2 hours shooting. Also we need to agree to credit the museum and not use the images commercially- absolutely no selling of these images. Here's the catch. They want a significant donation to open the museum when the public isn't there. Our cost will be $65 per person, including the donation and the cost of the model(s). So, I need a show of hands of people that can commit to either of these Friday's and can also pay the required fees. Once I schedule the event, and you RSVP, there will be no refunds if you decide to change your mind. The reason being, is that I need to guarantee a number of attendees to the museum. Also this is not a workshop. I will be available for questions and camera setting suggestions, but I'm not collecting any of the fee for myself because I want to play too. So please let me know if you will want to participate and I can make it official. We do have a minimum number of people to make this work- so invite anyone you know that would enjoy it even if they are not members.
Lastly, I want to hear everyones suggestions either for meet ups or if someone has an idea that would make the group better. I encourage making friends among the group and even suggesting mini-meets if someone suddenly feels like shooting for a few hours. And did you know WCPG has merchandise? Yep, that's right- though I'm still working on the Bobbi actions figures... (jk) Check it out a thttp://www.cafepress.com/westcountyphotogroup. If I spot you sporting merchandise out in public, I give discounts on workshops, small prizes and maybe even a one on one session with me for an hour. WCPG is also on Facebook- and that's where a lot of the action happens. I post daily tips, I reference links relative to photography, I do product reviews and I even post the groups images. Members are encouraged to post there as well to help with sense of community. So check it out, like it and starting learning new stuff and meeting people. https://www.facebook.com/pages/West-County-Photography-Group/371741013913
My door is always open- so to say- so if there are questions, suggestions, RSVP cancelations or last minute joins, feel free to contact me. My email is [address removed] and my phone is[masked]-7943. Voice is fine, but email and text will probably get you a faster reply especially if I'm with a client. Include your name if texting. Happy Shooting!
