Let's take a nice long hike up to Mount Gleason (elev 6520 ft) on the fire road which follows the ridge to the summit. For the peakbaggers, note that Mount Gleason is on the Sierra Club's Hundred Peaks List. The gate has been closed at Angeles Forest Highway for several years so the approach to Mt Gleason is now 9 miles long starting at Angeles Forest Highway and hiking up Mt Gleason Road to the summit (18 miles round trip). The Pacific Coast Trail parallels the road and is an option for those that prefer the trail. We will return on the same fire road so those that become too tired will have an easy escape from doing the full hike.

We will meet at a carpool location at the base of Angeles Crest Highway. There is cell phone reception at this meeting spot so we can coordinate with those that may be arriving a bit late. We will consolidate into fewer cars to save gas and leave the carpool location at 7:10 AM for our trailhead on Angeles Forest Highway at Mt Gleason Road (Mill Creek Summit Picnic Site). It is about a 45 minute drive from our carpool spot to the trailhead which means we start hiking at about 8 AM.

This event is cross posted on California Peaks meetup. Total group size limited to 24 people but you can expect far fewer people on this event.
A forecast for poor weather will cancel the hike. Be sure to check this event post 1 day prior to assure we are going.
