Holidays keeping you up but weighing you down? Literally? Let's work off some of those holiday pounds then!

Join us in hiking beautiful Smith Mountain (5,111ft) and Mount Bliss (3,720ft). The two summits are actually nowhere nearby one another. We will BE driving into the San Gabriel mountains to the Bear Creek Canyon Road Trailhead and hike Smith Mountain first. It is an 8 mile round trip hike. Then we will be heading out to the southern edge of San Gabriel Mountains and head to the Van Tassel Canyon Trailhead in Azusa. There we will hike Mount Bliss. It is an 8.6 mile round trip. Between the two summits it is a total of 16 miles round trip. If anyone is not feeling hiking Mt Bliss they're free to bail out after Smith Mountain.

From Interstate 210 in Azusa, take Azusa Avenue (Hwy. 39) north about 12 miles to the junction at East Fork Road (8.6 miles from the forest station at the mouth of the canyon). Continue straight on Hwy. 39 and drive another 6.2 miles to the parking area along the left side of the road (a quarter mile short of Coldbrook Campground). There is a vehicle gate at this location. At the trailhead is a pit toilet, a San Gabriel Wilderness display sign, a forest service information sign, and a trail sign: "Bear Creek Tr. No.239W10." WHAT TO BRING:

  1. You know the Distance, Elevation gain, Weather, and your Own physical abilities. Please bring enough Water/Electrolyte, and Food accordingly. Extra Water and Food as an emergency backup.

  2. Layers clothing, Hiking Poles, Headlamp, Gloves, Hat, Sun glasses, Sun screen, and any medicine you take regularly.

  4. Trail or TOPO map, GPS, or any other route information you might have.

  5. Most important, Please bring a very friendly and pleasant attitude.
