New Meetup: NO IMPACT MAN @ The Royal, Wednesday, 9/16, 7:50 PM

Announcing a new Meetup for Los Angeles Film Enthusiasts!

What: NO IMPACT MAN @ The Royal, Wednesday, 9/16, 7:50 PM

When: September 16,[masked]:00 PM

Laemmle's Royal Theatre
11523 Santa Monica Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90025

Am I giving too much away when I say that there is something really appealing about watching someone else's self-flagellating lifestyle experiments, while I continue my probably wasteful ways? Are these masochistic idealists crazy or visionary, victims or beneficiaries, of their uncommon obsessions? Who knows? Who cares? If nothing else, they (or the people around them) are usually entertaining, even if the laughter is a mixture of irony and condescension. So here's the latest experiment in alternative self-expression: is it possible to live a virtual caveperson's existence in modern Manhattan...and take your family along for the ride? I can hardly wait to find out.

Dinner is planned for 6 PM at Le Saigon (NO reservations...first come first served!). I'll meet everyone at the theatre by 7:15. Tickets are available online at Laemmle's Website . Conversation at Dolores, a few blocks away, afterwards.

The Synopsis: Author Colin Beavan, in research for his new book, began the No Impact Project in November 2006. A newly self-proclaimed environmentalist who could no longer avoid pointing the finger at himself, Colin leaves behind his liberal complacency for a vow to make as little environmental impact as possible for one year. No more automated transportation, no more electricity, no more non-local food, no more material consumption? no problem. That is, until his espresso-guzzling, retail-worshipping wife Michelle and their two year-old daughter are dragged into the fray. Laura Gabbert and Justin Schein?s film provides a front row seat into the familial strains and strengthened bonds that result from Colin?s and Michelle?s struggle with this radical lifestyle change.
