Saturday Workshop. Mountains & Rivers: Zen & Nature

Details
Ancient Zen people understood something we are only now coming to fully appreciate: we are not separate from the earth and its mountains, rivers, plants, trees, birds, stones and pebbles.
In this contemplative day of exploration with a long-time Zen practitioner, we will have an opportunity to explore our own sense of love and connection with the natural world.
We will read poetry from ancient China, haiku from Japan, and modern Zen inspired poets like Gary Snyder; explore Zen koans about nature; and see what the Zen arts of Asia can teach us about deepening our awareness and appreciation of the "mountains and rivers" around us.
Workshop leader, Florence Caplow, is a writer, editor, conservation botanist, Soto Zen priest and teacher, fifth generation Unitarian, and candidate for Unitarian Universalist ministry. Her second book, The Hidden Lamp, brings together teaching stories and wisdom of Buddhist women over twenty-five centuries.
