Welcome! I've started this page after seeing Amy Goodman/Democracy Now! report that single-payer advocates were calling for a boycott of Whole Foods over the views of its CEO, John Mackey. I'm angry and I want to make a difference locally. I don't plan on organizing events - I just want to get the ball rolling. Please let me know if you want to organize a meeting and I will add you as Assistant Organizer.

"Single-Payer Advocates Call for Boycott of Whole Foods

"Advocates for universal healthcare are calling for a boycott of the grocery chain Whole Foods over the views of its CEO, John Mackey. This week Mackey wrote an editorial in the Wall Street Journal criticizing President Obama’s plan to create a government-funded public healthcare option and dismissing the single-payer healthcare system of countries such as Canada and Britain. Mackey said he doesn’t believe in 'an intrinsic right to health care, food or shelter,' which he said are best provided through “market exchanges.” On Thursday, the group Single Payer Action released a letter calling for a boycott of Whole Foods."

      “The only good suggestion John Mackey had was remove barriers of competition from state borders to increase competition amongst insurance carriers. The wealthy depend on our sweat and blood for their private capital (profit). We keep their profit rolling in. Let their class pay for everyone's health insurance. Else, they are not acting as responsible employers, and are exploiting. Finally, as a result of this, let's boycott Whole Foods on behalf of all the uninsured.”

      “I grew up organic and only buy organic food. WF & TJ's are where I shop. Don't really like either, never did, but have no other choices. Or do I ? That's what I want to find out.”
