The Wimbledon Book club started in early 2009 and meets in central Wimbledon, south London, on the first Monday of the month.
The books we usually read are contemporary fiction in paperback but being an adventurous bunch we occasionally move out of our comfort zone to read something new. This may include Romantic Fiction, Science Fiction, Graphic Novels, Family sagas, current affairs or anything else that helps us become 'Well Read'.
Over 2009 we have read Star of the sea, Brighton Rock, The Corrections, The Great Gatsby, Brave New World & Island, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, Dangerous Parking, Flicker and The Left Hand Of Darkness.
Snow (Turkish: Kar) is a novel by Turkish author Orhan Pamuk. It was published in Turkish in 2002 and in English (translated by Maureen Freely) in 2004. The story encapsulates many of the political and cultural tensions of modern Turkey and successfully combines humour, social commentary, mysticism, and a deep sympathy with its characters. Read more
