Wimbledon Village Book Group Pages

1. The book club meets regularly at 7.30 pm on the last Thursday of the month. Meetings at other times will be considered as other Members express preferences, but these will read a separate series of books to those in the Thursday night run.
2. In general, we try to choose books in the fiction and biography genres, with the odd easy history thrown in, but in fact nothing is absolutely ruled out.
3. We choose books to read for the second meeting ahead so that although the group meets monthly there is a two month window in which to read the selection.
4. Books are chosen based on recommendations and interests of those attending but at each meeting there will be a 'final arbiter' who have the final decision. The position of 'final arbiter' circulates among regular attenders.
5. The Light Cafe (48 High Street, Wimbledon Village) is for the moment our regular meeting place, but occasional explorations can be made elsewhere in and around Wimbledon Village (especially if there's a good special offer for instance or in the summer when it might be nice to be able to meet outside).
6. The suggestion that we might occasionally have special guests - an author or publisher perhaps - was popular so we will actively explore this option. Similarly theatre or other literary related outings will be organised from time to time, not necessarily on a Thursday evening but at time to suit those interested in attending a particular event.

There is no charge for membership of the group or for attending meeting. There is an absolutely voluntary donation box on the table at each meeting, with a suggested donation of 50p. These funds are collected to cover the fees charged by to host these pages. No-one is going to stick the donation box under your nose and demand a contribution - it's entirely up to you. Hopefully you're having a good enough time to think it worth 50p.

Light Cafe is a very relaxed environment. It serves great food at reasonably prices, but there's no compulsion to eat at all, or you can just have a starter or dessert if that's what you feel like. Almost anything goes.
