November 2012 update

Greetings all,

As many of you know, this group has gotten really busy lately!  We've hit over 90 members, participated in a couple more hackathons and held our first social meetup!  And as promised, there's more to come.

But first, I'd like to welcome new members and make them aware of some ongoing activities:

  • DVLUP.  Many of you have joined the beta for Nokia's new developer incentive program, and we appreciate your feedback!  I hope to have some good news for you very soon about the Windows Phone 8 loaner program, too.  Right now, you can get WP 7 devices, so check it out.  And if you don't have a registration code yet, ask me!
  • APPS.  Some of you already have WP apps published, and some in progress.  I am highly motivated to help you in that area however I can!  To that end, I recently asked for info on your projects and only got a few responses.  Don't be shy!  If you have apps in the marketplace or in development, let me know!  Either privately or at the discussion thread.  It will be worth your while, trust me!
  • Speaking of apps and making it worth your while... I have a contest running to encourage you.  See the discussion here for details.  Those of you who attended the Black Friday meetup saw the nice Wenger backpacks I'm giving away, but I included a product link in my post for everyone else.  Check it out, and get coding!
  • Microsoft Dev Center.  I have some account tokens (valued at $99) to give away but note that they are precious and few.  Show me what you've accomplished and what you have planned-- you might walk away with one!  You don't need a Dev Center account just to develop, but you do to get apps into the marketplace.

As for future meetups, I'm hoping to get Nokia-hosted meetups going on a regular basis, starting in January.  I created a tentative meetup entry and hope to have more details soon.  Meanwhile, if any member would like to lead a meetup activity at any time, speak up!  I know a few have expressed interest.

Also, I would like to remind everyone that Nokia is still primarily focused on Windows Phone 7 development for the time being.  That said, if you have published a WP 7 app already, getting a WP 8 version published counts as an update via DVLUP-- so by all means, feel free to take that route!

Finally, another reminder about group members: we're not limited to coders!  This group welcomes UI experts, graphic designers, data analysts, QA gurus, marketeers, enthusiasts and anyone with a wild app idea!  So please invite anyone you feel could contribute!

I'm looking forward to your successes.

Thanks all,

Randy
