It's definitely helpful to newcomers to know how a testing framework works and what it expects by making a simple one. Some exploration of codeception would have gone a long way to inspire just how far you can go with it when you use tools found in the community.
There was lots of talk about idiomatic programming which is more a topic for domain driven design, not testing.

Try not to take audience input as a contradiction/opportunity to re-educate someone. Procedural and object-oriented code are two sides of the same coin. Regardless of any preference for complexity, lots of things are accomplished by way of both. Preferring one over the other really doesn't make sense.

Thanks for the feedback Alex. I would come watch a presentation about CodeCeption.

It was awesome while working through the kata! The discussion of oop vs procedural seemed heated and emotional... I could see it turning people off if they didn't know you well.

    Hey everyone,

It's tomorrow! Thanks everyone who RSVPed. I look forward to a good conversation about TDD.

Everything still on track, Alex? I should be there shortly after 5:30.

Yuppers. I was just at the space today tightening up the presentation area a bit (put away excess chairs).

Just a quick mention, there's outlets at the tables for anyone who wants to follow along. If anyone has issues finding or accessing the building, please contact me via email or gtalk - [masked]

Quick heads up, I've received permission to get pizza for the event, courtesy of Tipping Canoe! :)

Thanks for adding this to the SkullSpace calendar - heh. Would have been funny to show up and something else is double-booked! I'm so bad with organizing events.

I've set the date and time to Monday, January 6th, 6-8pm. Please reply if Tuesday of that week would be better. On Thursday Amir will present at the Ruby UG ( http://www.meetup.com/winnipegrb/events/151011662/ ), so I am planning to attend that.

I do not have money to sponsor pizza, but perhaps we could split the bill? It would be about $10 each probably. Let me know what you think, or if you have other ideas around food.

    Thanks!

I'll throw down for some pizza if that is what we are going to do.

Ok thanks for the replies. I have not heard from Dave yet.

I should be able to attend any evening, in contrast to last summer. So, date doesn't really matter to me.

I suggest January, after the holidays and Skullspace as the venue.

I've brought up hosting at SkSp and all systems are go if desired. All we have to do is make sure the board room is available on the calendar and book it. I'll be the "member in attendance" for our needs.

What's a good day of the week for you guys?

    December 17, 2013

And a good time, too, I guess, and whether after the holidays works.

Monday, Tuesday and Thursday work best for me.

    Thanks guys for RSVP-ing!

Now this gets announced to the group. Let's see whether anyone else RSVPs, and then let's talk about venue/date in a day or two. I'll message you then.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
