Hey Winos!

Also back by popular demand, announcing our first and last LIMO BUS adventure for 2013. The ride in itself, along our beautiful San Diego coast, is a ton of fun. On top of that, we've got winemaker tours and tastings set up at two super fun, yet very different urban http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/b/2/4/event_228842852.jpegwineries for a very unique experience. "Urban Wineries" refer to wine producers who have chosen to locate their wine making facility in an urban setting within a city rather than in the traditional rural, vineyard setting. With advances in technology and transportation, urban wineries can grow their grapes in a remote location and then transport them to the urban facility for crushing, fermentation and aging.

THE PLAN: A total of 10-12 tastes of hand-crafted wines presented by the winemakers themselves, including a special winos-only after hours tasting. Pack a lunch to enjoy an indoor picnic at either winery! In addition to a Rolling Raffle that will be conducted on the bus, hold on to your tickets because there will be two GRAND PRIZES raffled off at each winery...woohoo!

THE WINERIES: Our first stop will be California Fruit Wines (http://www.californiafruitwine.com/), nominated for 'Best Winery in San Diego' by Union Tribune readers, for a truly unconventional wine tasting. Many people assume that fruit wines are super sweet dessert wines, but they can be fermented to different levels along the dryness vs. sweetness spectrum. Our friends at California Fruit Wines are experts at determining the 'sweet spot' http://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/c/f/6/e/event_129413102.jpegfor each individual fruit. In January, they were featured on Fox 5 and you can watch their clip and learn more about fruit wines here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LtnYQVj0xDE&noredirect=1). Choose the 5 wines you'd like to taste, and then winemaker will give us a tour of the 4,500 sq. ft. facility and provide general education about fruit wines and their process. There's plenty of time and table space to relax and enjoy an indoor picnic, so don't forget to pack some goodies. A 6 oz. glass is just $5 and bottles are $12 + tax. Stay up to date with the latest from the California Fruit Wines Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/californiafruitwine). Then we'll head to Fifty Barrels (http://www.fiftybarrels.com/), a unique Southern Coast winery that imports 100% of their grapes from Napa, Sonoma and Paso Robles. The tastings will be presented by the winemaker (who showed off some moves on the limo bus poles last year!) and any Wino who joins the Fifty Barrels wine club will receive a free bottle of their Ben Dover Blend (gotta love the name!).

OUR RIDE: Getting there is half the fun! It's easy to mix and mingle on a party bus since everyone is facing center. Drinking IS allowed on the bus so feel free to bring your beverage of choice and any snacks. Check out this bad boy! Hey, what's that? Do I see TWO "dancing" poles?!? We'll make sure to have some great tunes playing in case anyone wants to show off their moves! http://img1.meetupstatic.com/54916378942021045586710/img/smileys/shock.gif http://photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/5/0/3/e/event_114800542.jpeg

ROLLING RAFFLE: Once we get on the road, we'll get the good times started with a quick raffle. Each person will receive one raffle ticket for a chance to win one of several winolicious prizes, including several pairs of tickets to Belly Up Tavern (http://www.bellyup.com/) concerts (The Ultimate Stones, Pato Banton and Tainted Love), wine and wine paraphernalia, and limited edition (the very last in existence!) 20 oz. etched Winos R Us wine glasses. It's our way of saying 'thank you' for spending the day with us!

PICK-UP/DROP OFF LOCATIONS: There are two pick-up and drop-off locations with plenty of free parking. Please aim to arrive EARLY in case there is traffic, an accident, etc. We are on a schedule with the wineries and the on-time winos will not be happy with the stragglers!
