Madison Trails, Zoo and Arboretum

Update: Weather forecast for Saturday - Showers likely along with a possible rumble of thunder in the morning, then partly cloudy late. High 78F. Winds W at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 60%. Due to the weather forecast, the start time for the ride has been moved to the afternoon. See updated start time below. I hope this works out better...I know that most people would prefer to not ride in the rain. Let's hope for the best weather-wise in the afternoon. Come out and ride the Madison trails! We'll ride a 25-mile loop on the bicycle trails through Madison, including the
Capital City Trail and the
Southwest Commuter Trail. We'll stop for lunch at the
Henry Vilas Zoo, where we'll also take a walking tour of the zoo. After lunch, we will ride through the
UW Arboretum before returning to our start location.
Note: A Wisconsin state trail pass is required to ride on portions of the various trails. We will stop at a self-serve station along the trail, where you may purchase a daily trail pass in case you have not yet purchased an annual trail pass.
NEW MEETUP & RIDE TIME: Plan to arrive between 1:00 PM and 1:15 PM. We will push-off promptly at 1:30 PM.
Directions: Take the US-12/18 Beltline to John Nolen Drive. Go north 0.8 miles to Olin Turville Court. Turn right on Olin Turville Court. Go 0.1 miles to the first parking lot on the right, which is where we will meet. This is a popular starting point for bike rides, so more specific details will be sent to those who RSVP for the ride.
Many thanks to WBM member Stephanie for her help in planning this ride for us and to WBM member Mare who joined me on the test ride!

It was nice to meet new members of the group and to ride with old friends as well. The zoo was fun and the unexpected stop at the custard stand gave us more time to get to know one another. Thanks to everyone for coming out...and sorry I was late to the start...

This was a really fun ride, and it was a great way to see various parts of Madison.

Sorry gang, bike was all set to go but I had to cover a funeral in Racine and was on the road at 5:30. (I am the State Captain for a group that provides Honor Gurads for military and veteran's funerals). I look forward to next time. Gonna hit Gov Dodge trails later today.

With the later start time, I'll be planning to have dinner in the Madison area on Saturday. Can anyone recommend a good Thai or Vietnamese restaurant? Or maybe Mexican or Chinese?

I've posted The Madison Bikeway System - Route Map under the "Files" section. I'll bring cue sheets to the ride to use as a guide for our ride.

I've ridden both the Cap City and the Southwest Commuter. Rode through the Arboretum before too. This should be lots of fun. I'm bummed that I can't go. I will be whitewater rafting on the Wolf River that day. Have fun.
