Melissa & the Leadership Team @ CWD -
I’d like to introduce you and the members of the Chicago Women Developers MeetUp Group to the CivicLab – http://www.civiclab.u... – a new nonprofit social venture that will be a store front space where activists, educators, designers and technologists will collaborate to do research, teach, and build tools that accelerate civic engagement and community improvement efforts. We are in the start-up phase but have a few projects getting under way.
Here are the projects that need researchers, coders, investigators and logistic support:
- Apps For Activists – Building apps and other tools to help organizers do their routine work and solve persistent problems in the organizing “life cycle” – NEEDS: coding, web design, payment processing, field testing, user experience, activist app store construction
- Activist Speed Dating Night – A fun night combining live music and intentional matching of attendees. NEEDS: coding, graphic design, special event production, publicity and marketing via social networking tools, printing
- The Tax Increment Finance (TIF) Report – Deep dive for one ward to reveal and illustrate complete history of TIF impacts, who got $, who was hurt using easy to navigate web site plus free tabloid distributed in ward. Also want to create 15 minute presentation that can be delivered at community meetings. NEEDS: data manipulation, mapping, investigatory journalism, graphic design, animation, publication design, educators, forensic auditors
We are having a working session on Wednesday, August 15 at the Read/Write Library – http://www.readwritel... – at 914 N. California from 6:30-9:30pm. More info from Tom Tresser - http://www.tresser.co... - tom @ civiclab.us.
