Women's Javascript Study Group

  • Nov 6, 2013 · 6:30 PM

We're a group of women who want to learn JavaScript together. We welcome people of all levels, but beginners are especially encouraged. You move at your own pace in this group, so it doesn't matter if you are a fast or slow learner, or if you attend every week.

We meet every Wednesday, 6:30 - 9pm. Free (non-pizza) dinner included, with gluten-free and vegetarian options.

Please be punctual - we go upstairs at 6:30pm sharp. We check the lobby once more at 6:45pm for latecomers but if you will be later than 6:45pm, please skip the group. We have to come down from the 6th floor to the lobby to get latecomers, so it's disruptive to dinner and coding to do so.

Our meetings begin with yummy food catered by our host, Zoosk, and we eat with Zoosk employees (some of whom can answer JS questions!). Afterwards, we have a short discussion or a presentation on a related topic when scheduled, then all hop on our laptops and work on JavaScript tutorials and help each other when we get stuck. Most of us are using, but we welcome other tools. Although the focus is on JavaScript, we also cover closely related topics such as HTML and CSS.

(The only tools you need to start using JavaScript are a web browser and optionally a simple text editor or code editor.)

Thanks to Zoosk, our wonderful sponsor, for the food, space, and support.

Our entrance is to the right of the Blick Art Supply Store on Market Street, one block southwest of Powell Street BART and the Westfield Mall. If you're afraid of the dark, no worries -- we can all walk to BART/Muni together afterwards. Just go on in (or knock if it's locked), and a friendly Zoosker (Beth or Kristin) will meet you in the lobby.

PS - If you want to come but don't have a laptop, just RSVP with a note and we'll try to find one for you.

This event is exclusively open to people who identify as female.

Just a reminder: Please wait to be promoted from the wait list before showing up. We often have people who drop out not long the meetup before due to work commitments arising so keep checking your status. You will be promoted automatically as space becomes available. (Sorry we only have approval from Zoosk for 40 attendees and we don't want to wear out our welcome. Thanks for understanding!)

Hi! Sorry, I meant to join for next week and just got off the waitlist, can't come for this one. Hope someone can take my spot!

Something's come up at work and I won't be able to get to Zoosk until 730. Can I still come, or do I need to forfeit my spot to someone on the waiting list?

Is there room for one more?

No worries. See you next week.

Please let me know if a spot opens up! I've been out of town and missed a bunch of meetups, would love to get back into it!

Looks like you made it on the attendee list. :) By the way, the system should notify you automatically if you are moved from stand by to attendee status. We often have a few people drop out a bit before the meet up time when other commitments come up for them so it's worth it to sign up on stand by.
